Was good but the ending was terrible enough to ruin the entire manga. The MC logically would have gotten with Kouki's mother, but instead, the MC getting with his adopted daughter is creepy and was completely out of nowhere. It made no sense. It made way more sense for the MC to marry the divorced mother and they raise their kids together since they were already close.There was no romance between the MC and his adopted daughter before then, none at all. The MC is like 25 years older than her. It's so gross. No one expected it. The mangaka's editor failed so hard letting that crap get published. Easily the worst ending for a manga that has an MC raise a child ever.

I loved the first part of the manga and found it heartwarming. The score for that part is probably around 9 or 9.5. The part where the romance begin I thought was handled horribly and it definitely soured this series for me. Could it be handled well? Yes. Was it handled well in this manga? Definitely not. There is a time jump and then everyone starts behaving weirdly. Maybe if we had gotten to see the years in between it would have turned out okay - who knows?

But that wasn't what we got, so therefor I had to lower my score.

After reading the manga almost twice and seeing the anime a few times, i am still conflicted. Aftar reading/watching with a grin on my face to be dropped by that kind of bomb... i mean, sure, exploring that kind of theme is interesting for some people i guess, but it still leaves a bad taste for me. if the manga ended at vol 5 i would give it a 10/10 instantly, but, well, i guess most people know what i mean. No matter how open minded you are, you are still slapped hard by the development.

Good enough for an age gap story.

I am fond of a large age gap romance and Usagi Drop is the most frequent title in those recommended manga lists. To my surprise, there was no romantic scene in this manga at all. The first half of the story was cute and funny while the second half was very heartwarming to me

once Rin said she wanted to bear Daikichi's child. And Daikichi neither accepted nor rejected her in the end!

Although many readers gave negative comments for the ending, I found it lovely. It was certainly awkward when a parent-and-child relationship turned into man-and-woman romance, but it was possible in such circumstances. It was kinda disappointing that both the animation and the movie was cut short and never ran to the end as in manga's version.

To me, Usagi drop was just a light reading with too many harsh reviews compared to Hogosha Shikkaku. - Issen o Koeta Yoru, which aimed at adults.

To say that the manga is bad and not to read it is a lack of respect for the author because the end does not have any more I advise you to read the manga and watch the anime and not to forget that it is a fiction before saying that it's bad because it does not go in your moral values
I find the end unique and different from what we can usually see act of courage for the author.
For my part I liked the times when the girl is a child and I found romance when the girl grows up quite boring becaus i dont like banality shoujo but the end is diffrent.

Two Halves, Two Faces

I'm sure I'll simply be restating what many others have said, but I still want to share my piece. I really liked Usagi Drop, from start to finish - that is, I like it when I put on my splitting goggles and tell myself that it was two totally separate stories/series.

The topic, character development, story line, dang - even the writing style - was completely different between the first half and the second half. I love both stories, they each have their charm. But they should not have been in the same series. They were just two different - the shift in story type from the first half to the second was just too jarring, leaving the reader feeling disted and uncomfortable. I absolutely ADORED the first half - I felt it was very unique, enchanting and heart warming, and I feel I would have loved it even more if it had ended in the first half where it was - it would have made it more captivating, allowing the reader to fill in the future however they liked. The second half, well... I agree with the others; it was inferior quality and at the end of the day, not a memorable piece. But, nonetheless I enjoyed it as a time-er.

Sigh I will definitely suggest this manga to others in the future, but I will urge them to read each half at least a few months apart, so that they are their own separate (and beautiful) soloists rather than attempting to dance together with two left feet each and no rhythm.

I give the first half a 9/10 and the second half a 5/10

I don't know what I can say about this series that hasn't already been said. The first half of the series was marvelously done, the second half was a dramatic, shoujo manga mess. This would have been fine had the manga artist not teased the readers with such great pacing and development in the first half. This only lead to my disappointment at what "could have been" had the artist not jumped on the romantic love boat so desperately. It wasn't misplaced, it just suffered from a rushed and awkward transition. And it's disappointing because this thing started out as such a gem. Also, I don't care what the manga artist said she intended from the beginning, the signs were not there in the first half. Usagi drop shares some of the same day-to-day developments as Hana to Akuma; the signs were THERE, not here. The signs don't have to be obvious, they just have to exist in some form the first place.

My dislike for the second half has nothing to do with my moral values--a general accusation that is quickly becoming annoying and cliched at this point. I just recognize the second half's inferior presentation for what it is. The pacing was BAD, the time skip was implemented VERY POORLY, the teenage drama added NOTHING to the story, and the way Daikichi and Kouki's mom's situation was just GLOSSED OVER (i.e. briefly mentioned) once in a ing conversation after all that build up in the first half felt like a RIP OFF. I know that things don't always work out, but f*ck. The manga artist was the one who made a big deal out of it, so the readers are justified in their feelings of restlessness and "wtf" as a result. And, after all that "alluding to", a brief few words about it in the second half was all we got in the end? Really? sigh Look, I can over look lots of things when it comes to a series that I love (One Piece, I'm looking at you), but lack of quality in presentation is where I draw the line. Also (warning: small, personal rant ahead):

If the thought of a guy ending up in a romantic relationship with a young lady that he has been raising for the last 10+ years, as his own daughter, makes you uncomfortable...then it just does. It's a pretty disorienting development, so it's a normal reaction, for crying out loud. As a matter of fact, it's as normal a reaction as liking it. It would be great if readers would actually review the friggin' manga and leave all of the psych evaluations out of the process. Good grief. What is it with people criticizing other people's opinions on this series? o__O??

Not liking this manga does not make you narrow minded; you can be open-minded and still think that the last 5 volumes suck--like I think they suck. However, accusing people of being narrow minded just because this makes them uncomfortable is (ironically) actually quite the testament to narrow mindedness. It's also quite hypocritical, so... :/

Rating for volume 6-10 + doujinshi: 4

I finished it, but I'd only read volumes 1-5 if I ever decided to read this series again.

I agree with most of the reviews here. The first half was great. It was entertaining, enlightening and hits you in the feels. I didn't mind everything that happened after the time skip but when it got to around c45-c47 and onwards... I just had to stop. I didn't want to go further and find out. Even with the hints here and there about not being blood-related it would/should be just all kinds of awkward.

I wish we had more of Daikichi's journey as a struggling father along with Nitani-san and the other parents. It was much more enjoyable, too. I wouldn't have minded if we had an ending of the parents experiencing the horrors of their children undergoing puberty then stretching and fading out into daily parental troubles. I don't even mind if all the potential ships NitanixDaikichi, KoukixRin, etc didn't work out. That's life!

But the way this one was going...that's not life >.< Or at least no one, in their proper headspace, would end up like that. It was just uncomfortable by the end of the manga.

I guess many of you reviewers have somehow been mislead or had delusions going into this manga. Personally, I think

Rin's electra complex was realized fairly on and it made a lot of sense for her to develop one. I'd say the onus falls onto Daikichi to reject it as a phase, but, him being Daikichi and wanting to please Rin, gave in. I prefer it this way over Kouki though. That guy was annoying as hell.

Anyways, my biggest issue is with people saying that it's "wrong" or "immoral" and scoring it low just because of that. Yeah, you know what? It's supposed to be. I feel like they glossed over that for sure but Daikichi definitely is still having some internal conflict about the whole thing. Really, there is nothing wrong with writing a story like this, just as there is nothing wrong with writing stories like Lolita and Oedipus Rex. They are stories about humans- that's all there is to it. These were never perfect beings, and they were never meant to be.

This manga deals with family. You may be thinking of just daughter and father, but it's actually raising more questions about what family is than just that. A sweet story with wavering execution at times.

Oh, and by the way, Yumi Anita has said before that she intended it to be like this(the ending) from the beginning. If you are angry and feel that you have been blindsided by the ending, I am sorry, but, you should have realized and bowed out while you could.
