A 11/10. A great comic that knows how to keep the tension growing and growing for 100+ mad chapters with a fantastic cast of characters. It's one of the most intense comics that I have ever read. And it's one of the few that I am sure it's going to be just as good when I reread.

The art is chef kiss 💋. The artist and the storyboarder deserve awards for keeping up with the task for all the story. Kudos.

As for the content warnings, they are for real. The taboos are the central part of the story but they are not there just for shock value, they also have a literary value. However if you are used to the 00's fanfictions this will be just another Thursday.

P.S.: Johannes my beloved, you will never be forgotten.

This story is fantastic. It’s a rare example of really intense plot tools being utilized very well. The trigger warnings at the beginning are accurate, but they genuinely contribute to the story in a heart-wrenching way that creates an enthralling and meaningful storyline. It encapsulates a tale that almost makes you hate and love all of the characters. You genuinely don’t know who to hate and who to love, and I think that is reflective of how dynamic and “real” the relationships we’re seeing play out feel.

It’s very consistent and will draw you in even after taking long breaks from it. I tend to take breaks due to it’s intensity, but it sucks you in right when you pick it back up again. You really just need to know what you’re getting into with this one, and know that the triggering themes do genuinely contribute to the experience if you feel comfortable enough exposing yourself to them.

Intense piece of work, worth reading, but ah so overtly angsty

Whoa finally a out of the box, unique manhwa! This is a stunning piece of work, with so many layers and so many things done just right, but overall some things quite bug me and put this just short of a master piece tier. So many dark, fierce and violent moments here! So much shock! So much of everything!

The story itself is a masterful blend of several threads, connected to superstition, alchemy, generational traumas, women's role in society, incest, mad love, revenge, reincarnation, warmongering, economy... While I felt the story flow could have been a bit more polished and the plot sometimes unnecessarily veers into backstories, it was a powerful, full bodies story and it left me quite impressed. Plus that the original author of the story take it's nom de guerre from Beatrice Cenci, an Italian renaissance woman who killed her own father after he bullied and raped her her whole life. And the ing characters were so well fleshed out, not a single one of them was a one note,paper thin creation with no personality. Winfired, Grizelda, Alyona, and the rest actually leave a mark, and this is so so rare in both western and eastern art (movies, manga, series, you name it).

The art was phenomenal. Not a bad note here. But this leads to the main downfall here... THE OVERTLY EXCESSIVE ANGST! I felt that this type of a story would benefit much, much more if it were less angsty and more socially conscious. I can understand excessive angst in stories with minimal narration, but for well tought out stories such intense emotional is just detrimental. YOu cannot really focus on anythign else when so much angst is before your eyes. And we have so much to focus here on! From the way Duke Valdemar treats Anette, to the brutality of the time period, to the social norms and customs, to the pursuit of freedom in such times... So, so many topics are covered here, but they get eaten out by so much pain, sorrow and angst. And I am afraid to say, it's cheap angst at some points. Mostly it's well made but they did try to manipulate the reader's heart string at some points. IMHO this wasn't needed for such a quality work. When Anette goes into her inner machinations, things lose a coherent line of narration and everything goes over-the-top. The art of course only multiplies this, with constant intense images, and that gets boring very soon. But indeed this is the only con of this otherwise great work.

The FL and ML are also top of the line. Johan especially is simply a splendid char. So many delicious contradictions rolled into one juicy, poisonous delight! Emotionally both a chauvinistic pig and a gentle child, a beast and the most honorable of men. Anette, our narrator, is so flawed and human it hurt at times. She's batshit crazy and realistic at once, a victim of the times and her surroundings, but also a victim of her own self. Truly a remarkable char! And their love... Don't get me started on it!

Overll, a very good manhwa, with many, many pros. Rec for sure!

I love this series to pieces. Never felt so many emotions reading a webtoon. I am not great explaining why, but the closets reason why I love this is highlighted on oreoand milk comment. I also wanted to add the character development on this webtoon is amazing to see and I will always root for Annette and John <3

I read Lady Devil because yandere male leads are my guilty-pleasure, and Johannes shows a lot of Yandere traits. I had a hard time to read at the beginning like stop at chapter 10. I tried to pick up this manhwa again but I gave up on chapter 12. LOL.

Finally, I work at home and have more free time... I found out that it is completed, so I ended up finishing all chapters except chapter 140 (found it on raws). Keep in your mind, it is very confusing but here's a content. First 60 chapters are all about Gio and John, then 61- around 100 chapters are focused on Idris and other characters. After 100 chapters, these events slowly recenter to Gio/John if that makes sense. If you can handle psychological, dark and anguish romance story, then you will enjoy this manhwa because the main couple are fucked up.

I honestly am a sucker for forbidden romance and dark kind of plot. And this actually is a good read I have in a while. I like how it's twisted and that the female protagonist is not a cliche weak "goody-good-two-shoes" ones I always read in some other manga. This is kind of a forbidden fruit but makes you want to read/want more.

I must say that this indeed is twisted sick, not-your-usual romance story. However, the way it unfolds will sweep you away along with the heavy emotions as you move forward. I thought I will be gritting my teeth whilst reading the story but heck, I ache for John every single time. lol
