Description

Three months after starting college, Gin Fujigaya is still having trouble meeting new people and fitting in. As an escape, Gin indulges in secretly cross-dressing and posting selfies of himself in drag online, which has garnered him a large following. This leads him to going outside dressed as a girl for the first time, and he soon discovers that the way people interact with him like this is vastly different than what he's used to. The story had a lot of potential, but the characters ruined it most of the time.

The author made the best friend of the protagonist to be like really predatory, obsessed and creepy. He didn't respect boundaries at all and assaults him when he is sleeping. And the girl that did help him when he was about to get raped, yes, again, by a group of men, takes a picture of him about to get raped just for extortion purposes, threatening to expose him if he didn't do what she wanted. Like the only decent person is the guy dancer. So none of the characters were likable at all. Of course, the publication of the manga was obviously axed, like it usually happens with Mangas like this, so he ending is really rushed.

Over all is a decent manga and it shows some good things, at least it's daring and brave at try and talk about taboos topics for Japanese society.

This is a manga that you can tell that it wanted to go in-depth of the complexities and difficulties of being apart of the LGBT community in Japan.

The characters seem to be written very flat, since the author was forced to rush through the characters just so they can get the final ending where all of the characters are reveled for what letter they are in LBGT. it makes it hard to develop any emotional bond since only two of them were given proper back stories of their "Queer Awakening" while the others are left in the dust.

I find it a bit scummy that they made the MC's best friend a predatory gay man, thankfully he doesn't act on his impulses but it's gross that they wrote him as a yandere type furthering the stigma that "gay men=mentally ill predators". I would have loved if the author had plans to redeemed him in the story but alas we'll never find out.

All in all its an okay story it just sucks that it was axed since it seemed promising.

Nowdays gender bender manga become popular and trending but almost of them just another shotacon who crossdressing for chasing girl and don't have any realistic point anything can happend to real life. Giniro no Gender become very good gender-bender manga in different way from previous gender-bender manga because Giniro no gender have main point at LGBT problem or maybe you that have struggle with your own identity that you want to try crossdress as a girl but you just don't have courage enough to do something like that because you need to fight with social, friends, family and many thing to concern and hold you back. So this manga not just a boring shotacon with cute crossdressing but it surreal and very good for someone who want manga to depict yourself in struggle in real life.
