So I thought the first (long) chapter was very well done. The two characters and their backgrounds that are given so far are interesting. I really like the romance especially, and was looking forward to seeing Kotoko try and win over her one-sided love at first sight. Before chapter two which is basically the latter half of the volume, this manga looks like an easy winner to me and I'm excited.

Just as things were getting good and the story starts to kick off, it's "two and a half years later' all of a sudden. I generally hate time skips and this one is particularly bad to me.

So the characters are...

already together? A crass remark from Kotoko also indicates they've already even 'been' together which is a pretty big deal, and not something to throw in for comedic effect in a random remark to a stranger as a way to inform the reader.

But yeah, the author spent 80 pages building up the start of a relationship only to 'yadda yadda' over the rest of it. I don't have any reason to read this anymore because THAT'S the part I was interested in.

A couple other things that bothered me after the time skip as well:
We're spending a lot of time on the ex, a mostly minor character we were made to DISLIKE during the start. She should have been handled better early on if we were going to be spending time on her.

Kotoko is doing crazy acrobatic fighting moves all of a sudden. This jarringly contrasts with how they've shown her to be up to this point. We know she's reasonably athletic despite the disability, but this is ridiculous without any kind of lead in.

art style is really well done, its both pretty detailed and clean the character design is nice as well.
Story wise it was not what i was expecting. the story flow pretty well but there is a lot of lengthy text to read here and there but it feel necessary to the story. It has a lot of familiar and themes but its pretty different from anything else ive read. the humour is not a laugh out loud to yourself while reading in a room than being embarrassed after realizing other people can hear you moment but its funny enough to soften the mood when the story get a little serious. as for the character i do like the two main heroines they are pretty interesting to watch but the MC doesnt seem unique or anything. One thing i did really like was the dialogue between the characters i found it pretty interesting. was a pretty nice read. looking forward to the next chapter

And yes, it's interesting! I've re-read up to chapter 4 at this point and I've enjoyed seeing how the elements of the story fit together.

Just because a story has cliched elements does not mean the story itself is cliche. All stories, outside of avant garde efforts, must have a foundation of familiar elements (see tvtropes.com for examples) to be understandable, but must also be creative in how they use and add to those elements. So please, if you are going to label something cliche, please consider rethinking how you use that term.

Slight uneven depite the being promising

The author´s Spiral was just ok so this is a marked improvement with quality art. The early twist is good and full of potential due to the well oiled dynamic between the 2 leads. The equally long further chapters stared to become rather obvious and downright convenient but still featured some nice moments in-between the very “Shounen” tropes.
The love triangle needs work though, as the main couple´s chemistry is flimsy at best. The world building is also starting to run into problems. The world seemed big at first but the central mystery is can now be easily summed up in a few sentences. I will to continue to read on but i am not sure how interesting this manga will remain for older readers.
Update: And i am done. It´s cool that the manga isn´t episodic but the arcs barely move within the 50+ pages chapters and more that half the scenes are filler that accomplish nothing. The series also utterly lacks edge, which is fatal for a ghost/detective story. The core love story also quickly stopped being engaging in any way or move nowhere. So don´t be surprised if you also drop the book after a few volumes and the much more talented artist should have picked a better writer.

after reading chapter 1, it got me interested.
now after i'd known that the writer is the same person who wrote Spiral and Zetsuen no Tempest, i'm sold XD like his works all along ~
(tho his two works get me traumatized because of the ending. don't get me start with Spiral's ending)
i must agree that the protagonist and the heroine actually are cliched. but when they're together, it's so funny. ahahaha
i will follow this till end~!

Don't really like female main characters as much because well same as with other male Mc's but this Mc is likable along with the male character because come on seeing the two together is funny XD

A promising new manga by the writer of Spiral Alive

There have only been 2 chapters as of yet, but this is already pretty amazing. It's a dialogue-heavy series typical of the writer's previous works, and a great take on a romance / mystery story.

There are yokai, and other monsters from Japanese folklore, but so far my favorite parts were the protagonist's phenomenal courting of her love interest: utterly open (there's no secret crush), dogged, usually extraordinarily polite, and always amusing. Oh, and did I mention she's a confident person with a cane? She doesn't quite use it like Dr. House, but it's great nevertheless.

How do I put this... if Lucifer no Biscuit Hammer was one great mangaka's original take on a previously stale monster-of-the-week / Power Rangers formula, then so far, Kyokou Suiri is another great author's original take on stereotypical romance stories.

I highly recommend you check it out.

Addendum: Having read up to chapter 13, everything above still holds true. But I do want to add some praise for the mangaka, as well: this is a novel adaptation, and the author was apparently almost entirely hands-off, so the wonderful flow etc. is presumably entirely due to the skilled mangaka.
