Description

From Viz:Yusuke Urameshi was a tough teen delinquent until one selfless act changed his life by ending it. Togashi released the official doujinshi Yoshirin de Pon! in 1994. It includes a few omake and a post-mortem interview that explains his decision to end it prematurely.

I can't figure out this series high ratings. The art is lackluster and inconsistent. The characters are paper thin. The plot is all over the place. I mean, series starts as an episodic paranormal comedy to suddenly turn into tournament fighter, in the process throwing every trope in the book at the reader. And the author seemed to make it up as he went along. Previous plot points are carelessly brushed aside and forgotten. And to add insult to injury, when I felt the series was finally going somewhere with the demon portal arc, the whole thing was terribly rushed. That was just pathetic.

Imagine making such a basic generic review in 2021 that completely lies about a 30 year old series and compares it to dbz comparisons that have been lied about for nearly 30 years now. To the review below me. YYH still stands the test of time and offers way more than just battles, its a deep dive and character study on the intricate detrimental nature of our society moral codes. No only that it subtle deals with topics you wouldnt pick on like abusive single households and how that can affect the youth in subtle ways. This is only a surface level analysis on this series far more complex than the guy under me can clearly understand. Sometimes people just arent intelligent enough to understand nuance in storytelling really sad Truly.

I recently re-read this manga and watched the first and last arcs of the anime, with a few sprinkled episodes here and there. I'm giving it a 8.5/10, but i have to it that at least 2 of those are nostalgia points. There are a lot of plot holes and the art is pretty dated on both the anime and the manga, but the anime is more visually pleasing in my opinion. The dialogue can be corny at times, especially in the dubbed version, but it is not a bad dub, i like a lot of the liberties it takes. I watched the episodes dubbed but with subs on too for comparison. The positives for me are the characters and their imperfect lives.

In summary, this was a great manga and i recommend it to anyone who has not yet read it or watched the anime. If you are picky about art or cant get past the outdated and sometimes corny dialogue then maybe it is not for you.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a fun read. Although the anime is more entertaining, the manga pars alongside it. The manga has only one downside, it ended way to soon, and you cannot help wanting more. After all, this series has amazing characters and a relatively entertaining plot. This is one of the few shounens I love to death, especially the anime, which lives up to the manga. It is a must read for those who love shounen.

I wish they would make a remake of this anime too. I don't like how the animations were back then since the animations are better now. It's been almost twenty yrs when they released ep1 and 17 yrs since the anime finished

I read Yu Yu Hakusho originally years ago, and it immediately skyrocketed to the top of my favorites list. Since then, I have read hundreds of manga, and haven't looked back at Yu Yu Hakusho for years. With me new eyes, when I found it again, I realized that it still is quite near the top of my favorites list and is definitely my top favorite fighting-style shounen story.

The characters are definitive, cool, and interesting; they develop as people and as fighters. The plot makes logical sense and flows pretty well, and is not lost between or during fights. The anime is better than the manga simply because the fights are much more interesting seen on-screen (personally, I read the entire manga and then found my favorite fights on youtube to watch properly).

On a more critical note, the ending felt slightly anticlimactic and although somebody spoiled it for me I didn't believe it until I saw it on the page. The first volume or two did not do well in introducing the series' tone and purpose; though those stories were interesting. I'm not sure how much of the first two volumes is lost in the anime, but I there being quite a bit of it gone... and I couldn't say if it adds to the series or takes away from it.

All in all, if you're a fan of shounen manga, I highly recommend it. If you're not, I suggest you give it a shot anyways. Definitely a classic and worth the time.

...but the ending kind of brought the whole thing down a bit. Save for the ending, the whole thing is pretty awesome, like at a 9-9.5 level... but that ending seemed pretty slipshod, like he just gave up on it and wanted to move on... which I can understand. But, still...

This is probably one of the best series I've read! I haven't seen another that holds my attention like this one did! It's not very long, but I kinda like that. I was looking for a new manga series to get into after I finished all of InuYasha's bajillion volumes, so I thought to myself, "Hey, what ever happened to that Yu Yu Hakusho show I used to watch in like 7th grade? I wonder what happened?" Sure enough, it had a manga (WOO!!) Now, I am even more of a fan than I was to begin with...
I get bored of manga that are the same thing every chapter like "Oooh! I'm gonna use this special move!" "Well oh yeah, I'm gonna use this other secret technique against you that's even better!" "Well, I'm gonna use my secret secret technique that's even better than yours!!" That bores me so much... I enjoy this manga because it's much better than that. Yeah, definitely a must-read if you ask me! It has enough seriousness with enough comedy to make it very enjoyable! Thanks, Yu Yu Hakusho!!

Why are people comparing and complaining about HxH on YYH's page?

I think this is one of the greatest series ever. The anime does fix most of the flaws of the manga, but the manga has some stuff that aren't really included in the anime (albeit useless, some of the things they say in the manga in tiny speech bubbles are absolutely hilarious).

You can go up to any serious or even semi-serious anime fan and mention YYH... they'd go bonkers. Proves that YYH isn't just a great manga and outstanding anime, it's also a great instant conversation starter with potential-friends.

And just for the record: I enjoy HxH, but YYH is more fun for me.
