The thing that bothers me the most with the ending: 28c39
How did the travel through time? It was never really stated. Just that the plane disappeared in the past and then crashed on the island in the future.
Or are they all artificially created just like the animals?

The ending totally reeked of The Drifting Classroom...Well, at least it's a bit more happy than that one, but yeah, plot holes, plot holes like most of what everyone is saying.

Apparently that guy was
one of Akiras classmates, probably died of natural causes

Holy S***! How could it end with mere 20pages and LIKE THAT!? Was it forced to end?? I really think it was like that, so many stuff left to solve T-T

It's times like these I wish the author would come out and tell us how he WANTED the plot to go, as opposed to what happened to it.

Ooooooooh... that's not something I had considered... It makes more sense, given the way the story seems to have been going.
It almost feels like it's the perfect end for a new series to start... but that being said... I'm not happy with the ending.
No affirmation of the main character's relationship, loose ends left untied... And more questions raised with the final than answered.
I'm annoyed.

Actually its pretty much confirmed Akira (main character) will end up with Rion. Feelings for eachother were mutual since the beginning of the series but Akira lacked confidence and thought she liked his friend who was more popular and atheletic than him. It became clear to him much later in the series and near the end when she seemed like she was about to die he confirmed his feeling for her and was ready to die with her but luckily they found a cure and both survived. In the end they were both by eachothers side. That pretty much makes it obvious Rion and Akira are a couple in the end but others are still up in the air.

Your idea of affirmation and my idea of affirmation are two entirely different things.
For starters, your idea of affirmation is actually called "speculation" or maybe "assumption"
Mine is the confirmation of the truth or validity of a thing.
It doesn't matter how likely it is. It wasn't confirmed.

You won't get anything more confirmed then that. Only other thing they need to do is kiss which is not necessary when both feelings for eachother are clearly known by eachother (especially when they are childhood friends who grew up together) or marriage which is not likely in the world they are in now. Rion's feelings for Akira were clearly known early on in the series but Akira's feelings were mostly hints being thrown off by his lack of confidence. His feelings were made clear near the end of the series when it looked like Rion was going to die. He realized he can't live without Rion and was ready to die with her. Thats a clear confirmation of their relationship. When character can't live without someone and others feelings are clearly known is a writers indirect way of saying these two characters will be a couple/lovers/married.

OK, this is it.
WORST WEAK-ASS ENDING EVER
I grew to enjoy this manga but this is ridiculous. Makes you feel you've been wasting your time reading it...

Exactly what I was thinking about, it makes sense if they were like the animals. I don't have a problem with the ending. Some people seem pissed. The few things that weren't resolved are mostly relationship stuff. Doesn't cover what happens afterwards. Maybe some people think they introduced the explanation at the end without giving it time to sink in.
But yeah I was thinking the same thing the whole time. The only thing is how would they get their memories. But it'd be the strangest thing if it was a random time thing. The series is somewhat grounded and that would make the least sense.
The thing that would need explaining is just the set up. Why would they activate at that time, who put them on a plane(who'd activate them if anyone), would it be so that they don't know their origins or can live their lives like normal ect.
I really found it funny when they looked at all the stuff going on and Akira jumps to the conclusion of time displacement instead of the more obvious possibility. I imagined any of the random people just jumping in and saying "don't you think it's more likely that..."
Y'know I felt the ending to this was a little sadder or more emotional than his other disaster work. Even though the entire world died off in that one and in this one it was only like 150-326(not including the scientist). It's like that futurama episode with the dog. Seeing what became of Akira's mom, how she was effected, how sad she was,
and that they'll never meet was pretty effectively saddening. Though She actually becomes some sort of polymath almost batman out of it.
I also doubt that the bacteria at the end would pose any risk towards the world at large though we don't know what happend there either. But the kids beat it with salt... so unless there's a salt shortage. I'm willing to bet vinegar or anything would work. The berries were tougher.
But I'm willing to be a sucker so I can chalk it up to the cosmos aligning for that sense of his mom helping him. They already had mami have psychic visions anyway.

Well, in cases like these I usually chalk up the time travel to an electrical storm. Maybe they were hit by 1.2 GigaWatts of lightning. Back to the Future anyone?
