Out of 30 companies that I have approached, six companies have verbally agreed to come though. I'll bet kodansha, shuseisha and square enix are not part of the six.

I think it's a mistake to get the publisher involved in this, as they always take their lion's share. With the internet, the manga industry could just ditch (or at least lessen the presence of) the publisher, just like the gaming industry and the music industry is slowly slowly doing.
Now if the publishing companies get into online manga business they might keep taking their lion's share.

sounds like scam the people from mangahelpers came up with.
i wouldnt give a damn about this.

i would advice people to be careful about this. they don't have the communitys prosperity in mind. they just want to make money with your scanlations like Tazmo and the fallen from grace Mangahelpers.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about it.
For me it's the same as "paid online reading sites" that use other people work.
I rather buy paper copy.

To hell with this idea! I mean why yaoi? Are they trying to reignite again the hunt last months? The hunt started with the discovery of mangas with malicious content on the net then affecting the whole community. Possibilities are this is a fraud or a bait to lure out AGAIN scanlation groups.

I have no idea what you mean by "hunt" as we have several incidents, one being Google adSense that caused online readers to take down "offensive series" as there was another by the manga coalition also on online readers that caused some to shut down.

Neither was caused by Yaoi series (granted adSense likely targeted such series by comments I read about the whole affair) as the only strike I know against Yaoi series was C&D notices from Yaoi English publishers to Yaoi translation groups.

You do understand they dont need to "bait" scanlation groups, they can easy find them as many groups have been C&D over the years, I have the idea they are going with Yaoi because its one of those genders that professional translators do not want to work with.

I'd rather be paid upfront, if it's all the same to them.

technically the guy your replying to is right. Scanlation fall under the same category as file sharing in sense because the material is "shared " through out the internet, with consent of the original owner.

Owner buy manga-> becomes his property-> Shares property in a virtual area of space-> Shared property becomes public property. throughout this entire process there has been no mutual exchange made, therefore it does not fall under the idea of "illegally distributing". That how to get around the idea of infringing on the owner's copyright. The other problem is that it is not a "reproduction" of the author's work, and is "published" anywhere. It's just being "shared".

However this topic is subjective, and therefore depends on whose interpreting this. but whether you like it or not, it's considered a grey area.

I definitely will not this group, its a load of bull really, in the end its just a bunch of guys who'll generate a fortune on other people's work. And it totally against the tradition of scanlation and will ruin the very fabric of our subculture which is based on entirely on the love of manga, and our sense of community.
