Novel entries will only be approved if they are licensed or have releases listed on MangaUpdates. I will reject all other novel series entries 42m65

I had no idea that was a rule about adding novels, considering all the entries listed under "unlicensed / no releases / novels" on MU. I wasn't even aware that one could or should list novel releases on MU, though I probably haven't paid attention.

Anyway, if that's the rule for novels, I feel it would still be easier to just list both Novel Author and Comic Adaptor in the "Author" field for comics, and then make a note on the individual author page/s that this person is the novelist for Series or the Adapter for series. Or the curious reader could just google both names and see which one is the novelist. Or MU could go super fancy and add a (parentheses comment option) to the Author field.

If there's already a manga in the MangaUpdates database that's adapted from a novel, you can add the novel as a separate entry, connect it to its adaptation in the Related Series field, and then list the novel author as the sole author on the novel entry. Then it's obvious who the orig ...

I know that already but that only applies to one's that have their novel licensed or being scan, if the novel is not being one of those two its not allowed to have a page/entry

And it's not really necessary make a whole entry unless the novel series is popular as the webtoon, a simple note should be fine

All the entries that existed before we made that rule can remain. I've removed everything new that slipped through the cracks, mainly because people initially added the entries as manga and then changed them to novels later

I had a talk with Lovelyspacepanda and the webcomic descriptions on the site are kind of a mess to this day. Manga descriptions, printed or not, have been figured out long ago but this continues to be an ongoing issue with the glut of other works we have. A lack of uniformity and tons of excess space and info (who makes a note that a link is dead instead of removing it, lol) makes these boxes especially difficult to decipher on a phone. No one will die if the source for the deception text comes first or last but some of these boxes give me OCD when it comes to the rest.

Her "best practice" example on page one is solid. Why not make a version of this a link in the FAQ as a start so that people who legit care about making the site look nice work in one direction?
I never ever use any form of color or italics in the description as these were never really "in" on this site or otherwise but if bold is to be used when setting hyperlinks then this is something I and others should consider. Etc. Nothing can ever be perfectly uniform and even I bend rules when I do my novel database work at work but the issues the site has with descriptions are fairly solvable over time if a direction is achieved.
