Is it Shoujo or Seinen,, 4a1q2f

Considering the votes.. it is unwise for people to jump to the conclusion that this is shoujo just because THEY feel like it is... as far as i see.. its almost 50 - 50 ... and its not like this is a MANGA its a MANHUA! just get the damn idea, there is no specific definition that says that it HAS to either shoujo or shounen. It can be both. Did you totally ignore what i wrote in my last reply? even forgetting the freaking action theres loads of things that qualify this as a shounen [shoujo also] - read what i write before. Btw just because it has prince, its shoujo? omg... so "Prince" of Tennis is shoujo too? 5fn7
If you feel this is shoujo fine, just don't throw away new shounen readers who would have enjoyed this manga and thought it was shounen because you need to prove your point... As far as i can see the genres are there so people who pick up the new manga can understand what they get into. At the moment 14 shoujo; 22 shounen. There are many that feel this is shounen as well as many that think this is shoujo.. if you went and looked at a similar topic in mangafox about 62% thinks this is BOTH!! **Stop being selfish and scaring away shounen readers by labelling it as shoujo just because "YOU" think so. Just leave the genre as they were without the damn shoujo / shounen tag

It is Shounen.
You guys should really learn what a demographic is...
It's based on the magazine it's serialized in, and it just happens that its magazine is a shounen magazine, therefore, it is shounen.
Just because it "feels" like shoujo doesn't mean it is.

I'll just say i agree with the above poster... i was reading tokyo innocent... it totally feels like a shoujo.. but its definately a shounen considering the growing feeling of a harem. It would be really nice if people stopped messing around with the genres, and leave the shoujo/ shounen out of the genre... I'm pretty sure its unclear
By the way Starlightdreams, whats the magazine called? [i am interested for reasons otehr than this genre crap]

This is a manhua not a manga. Chinese comics aren't divided in the same demographics as Japanese ones:

Since there's no shoujo/shounen in manhua anyways, why not just leave it tagged as both? Doesn't do any harm and MU's policy doesn't require a single demographic, AFAIK.
Discussing whether this comic is shoujo or shounen is kinda pointless since you try to adapt Japanese on a Chinese media.

Technically, every product on
the market has a demographic.
That's besides the point though, and I don't
know where I want to go with this. 😐 leaves

i keep hearing about "oh this magazine is shounen" so its shounen, so which magazine is it? and where does it say its shounen? From what i heard, manhua's are't divided like that.
And art style? well art style nor bishounen mean a thing since the whole story is from a novel... the art was just the mangaka bringing the characters to life.
Some points from MF
Quote from Mizura
Hahah! I guess what this Really shows is that in Japan, manga are Way too concerned with fitting into a nice little mold of either Shounen or Shoujo.
Shounen: Male protagonist, lots of fighting.
Shoujo: Female protagonist with love triangle. The truth is those barrier are quite artificial when it comes to story-telling, and as a result, manwha or manhua sometimes don't give a damn about them. XD If 1/2 Prince were a Japanese manga, Prince be much weaker and protected by both males, not to mention be a lot more focused on love. Oh horror. D:
Quote from Shattering Skies
Ah yes, I agree. Nods repeatedly
My friend who read the Chinese novel told me the author said her book was for both females and males, and she would be glad if either read her work.
Anyways ... leave the genre as it was before this topic was made... aka without shoujo or shounen; or just INCLUDE BOTH!. The story is from a novel and it says the following
from *http://halfprince.wordpress.com/2009/05/02/chapter-2-legend-begin/ *
“Perhaps it’s not really for as inane a reason as proving my brother wrong that I decided to become a guy.”
“Then, what’s the real reason?”
“Maybe the real reason is that I just don’t want to hide behind anyone… not anymore.
“I want to kill monsters to my heart’s content, using all kinds of crazy methods and moves, without anyone calling me a violent woman.
“I want to swear and cuss while killing and whenever I’m pissed or annoyed… but without anyone saying that it isn’t ladylike.
“I want to be able to laugh after hearing an off-colour joke – or even add my own retort. I don’t want to be forced to pretend I don’t get it, just to prove how pure and innocent I am… but I don’t want to be called a vulgar woman either.”
If this isn't aiming for gender equality i don't know what is...

This was all said and explained in earlier posts.
The problem when you take out the demographics (shoujo, shounen) here at MU is, that the series won't be filtered. It won't pop up at all when I use the genre search with the shoujo/shounen to look for e.g. an adventure teenie manga.
Thus, although it's technically wrong to call this manhua a shoujo/shounen, will lead to the sad result that this series won't be found as often as demographically tagged manga. That's why I would recommend to tag it with both - shoujo and shounen - to have it found properly within the filter function of MU.

It's hardly believable to get the impression that Basara is a Shoujo Action. It's one of my most fav. manga to date!
But based on my general interests, I prefer Seinen romance than Josei/shoujo romance. But I GENERALLY avoid Seinen/Ecchi combo.
I usually read Historical/Sci-fic --> if combined with shoujo/Josei
Edit: ack crap! I thought this is a thread in the Manga discussion thread!! So it's all about 1/2 prince related discussion. xD;;; oh my.

Eni has a good point there... people who can't agree on this... can u please leave both genres on.. it won't hurt you. It will serve to bring in more readers. Ultimately better for you since more popularity = higher chance of animes, english license etc etc... i'd want my fav manhua to be known by more ppl, im sure you people do too..

As of right now, both "shonen" and "shoujo" are being used under the genre tags for this manhua. Leave it how it is guys, OK?
Also, since the artwork is a factor for some people wanting to label this series as shoujo, let me point out that ALL the other series that the artist, Choi Hong Chong has worked on prior to 1/2 Prince are martial arts action manhuas. In other words, stuff that would undoubtedly be labeled "shonen."
It doesn't make sense to have a shonen-only artist drawing a shoujo series unless the editors of the magazine 1/2 Prince appears in wanted a shonen demographic as well, now does it?
So the "shonen" label absolutely applies here. As does the "shoujo" label. So I repeat: keep both genre labels.

Alright, so I added both demographics to the genres area.
Someone put shoujo in there and not shounen with it.
And sorry for not knowing about Chinese manhua magazines, anyways, the magazine is Dragon Youth by the way.
And does it really matter?
No, it doesn't...
