Too much hopeful thinking, I think. It's been pretty clear for a while that Rai is going to die eventually and it way well be quite soon in the story. It has been shown repeatedly that his tendency to use his power is killing him, especially when he strains himself by releasing his seal. He is playing the role of the Noblesse to the hilt and the basic role of the Noblesse is to spank naughty Nobles who abuse their powers. Self-preservation seems to be a secondary concern for him.

seems like one of the past clan leader who has betrayed noble has been loyal to Rai. Urokai and other didn't know that Rai was alive but the fact is They (Union) had the Rai's coffin before rai open his eye.

He can't die at least till Roctis is further introduced in the story. So far it seems Roctis was his most loyal follower and I believe that's the reason authors are prolonging his participation on larger scale.
