Maki Murakami made her manga debut in the 1995 April issue of shoujo magazine Kimi to Boku. Her work was titled Narushisuto No Higeki, roughly translated as 'The Tragedy of a Narcissist'. One year later, Maki Murakami began the series, Gravitation Remixes, a doujinshi series that follows the relationships between her various Gravitation characters in very graphic sexual detail under the pen-name "Gangstar Yoshio".

Her doujinshi circle is called Crocodile-Ave., and has published various doujinshi, especially for her series Gravitation. She sometimes writes under the name, Gangstar Yoshio when authoring doujinshi. She also has a child.
