I feel like the MC is just dragged everywhere. Like all of a sudden he ended up in strange places and situations. So... It's best treated as a lighthearted novel.
But the one thing I complain is just the number loli just somehow added(or forced) to the story. Although the MC repeatedly refuse to it he's a lolicon, I doubt that. It feels like Konjiki no wordmaster, those loli I don't know where from just somehow ended up being part of the harem.
The writing's not bad, but the plotting... It quickly becomes apparent that this has all been written a chapter at a time, without thought of a greater plot. It repeatedly takes the MC and just throws him into different places without good reasons, leaving the cast underdeveloped.
There are strange interference to the system a.k.a the "world" as it calls itself. Then updates which seems as if the system is always watching our main character. "Balance patches" which adjust the strength inconsistency causing our main character to get mutilated by a fallen angel. The world seems pretty messed up volume 4 on. Human experimentation and improvement etc.The story also got more serious and more mystery than comedy...
i am at somewhere around volume 7, the story never has a dull moment but i am beginning to hate how op the main character is, not because he is strong but he did not even have to work hard for it. Most of the time he is engaged in his hero's work(looting everything in another person's house, breaking vases that kinda thing) and reading (stealing books from libraries, vaults and after a glance to learn the skill, he resells them in the black market)
though the occasional gag that pops up here and there makes me feel that the author is trying too hard
There have been more and more manga about a real life RPG, so I'm guessing there are quite a lot of people who wish life was like this. I can't really find any other reason they'd be so popular, because the stories are awful. Life must really suck to hope for something like this. Also, the description is terrible. It's obvious that it's about a real life RPG, but what sets it apart from the rest? Just typing some cheesy, generic dialogue makes one think it's, well, cheesy and generic. Also, the word "hey" alone isn't a question. Ever.
In some ways it's like many Chinese and Japanese webnovels: a guy get transported (somehow) into a VRMMORPG world. The game world system his actions and assign him to various questline depend on them. He met some of the fellow players.
He cautiously advance instead of flamboyantly flaunt abilities like so many other players, which should be the first deviation from typical setting. He dont have overpowered abilities, or if he has, he dont know what it is and what to use, which is another deviation.
He advanced through the game not knowing much about surrounding, like a gamer playing blind the first run. So he become [Scapegoat] for various dangerous events, which seem to be the "Good" way to play, and he met various players but all of them either on Neutral, or Evil way.
So yeah, if you are readers who like Arifureta or the likes, more than likely this very good novel will poke you the wrong way~
Its trying soooo hard to be funny when its not.... The story is set in a digital sandbox with rpg elements in which random idiots have been transported to. If you enjoy reading how idiots flounder around like fish on land then its a good story I guess.
