Feels like reading a re-skin of some other older existing works out there without bringing in anything fresh.
The biggest problem this manga has that failed to hook me in is probably the mentor-student relationship interactions not being enjoyable enough to read. It just wasn't engaging enough, as a result, I ended up up not caring enough for the characters and their fates.
Feel like watching people go to way points to waypoints.
That said, the characters designs are stellar and the pace ain't that bad. It's just a rehash so feels boring if you've read many works before this.
Pretty standard shonen battle fare. If it's what you're in the mood for, you'll find this enjoyable. The character designs are well polished but not outstanding. The only thing that's different is the source of their powers (minerals and metals).
This manga has everything I could wish for: Interesting and likable characters, an interesting story and fantastic art. Not to mention the great cover art.
While it feels like Kai is still lacking something (maybe a real weakness?), I cannot complain about Akeboshi at all. He has his good points but also flaws - he almost feels alive.
What I probably like most is the art style though. Everything is drawn so well and detailed. The mangaka did not use screentones for backgrounds like some others do, instead everything is drawn by hand. Also the colored chapter pages are stunning.
As of now, I’ve read 3 volumes since that’s all which is available in my country for now.
