This title actually got the potential to be good, but there's way too many questionable stuffs that hampers it, especially in of gaming, to the point that if the reader is an avid gamer, then their reaction would be "lolwut".

Long story short, this series were clearly made by someone who never played a game, especially MMOs, where it clearly shows on how the author made the MC, which is clearly a casual player, becomes one of the top players in the game, beating all other "hardcore" players easily, which in reality is absolutely impossible (except you buy for power of course, which also the MC didn't do).

As for life skills debacle, yes, there are players out there who "neglects" in leveling their life skills, and this is actually very common in every MMO, where they just focused on leveling/gearing up their character, and not even bothered leveling their mining/cooking/fishing/etc.

But what makes this series weird is that the author somehow made ALL the players in the server neglects leveling their life skills, which doesn't make sense, since these skills is usually the best way to make money.

This series reminds me of SAO during Aincrad arc, where it suffers from the same problem: The author doesn't know jack shit about gaming, especially MMOs and how a game is supposed to be played, so all the stuffs that they made were made by pure assumption and of course their imagination, which is laughable...

Pretty much what RazorAce and Seregosa say, while I don't agree with all of it, I don't idolize gaming culture after all but at least it should be coherent. There is no real reason or explanation of why every single AI only shows interest in him, there is likewise no valid explanation of how someone who plays 3 hours a day can keep up with those who play over 8hs. The MC not having the balls to say no to anyone and all of a sudden turn 180 degrees and send the only interesting char in the game packing, or the explanation in the supposedly bad skills which are of course not bad at all balance of course, but also crafting is an essential part of any MMORPG, the idea of them being underrated is ridiculous in itself... alchemy in particular. Also, I can't imagine any game,no matter the reason, to give only one person mega overpowered skills, as for the rest? who cares, they are not the MC.
After that, as RazorAce says, the change of cast doesn't do this manga any good either, the MC by himself is not enough to keep the story going, he's not bad but he's just boring and the manga is pretty much the daily day "life" of that boring character with some occasional fighting and lots and lots of menial tasks and descriptions, thus quite boring.
Overall, it's a decent read but that's it, a lack of an arching story or sub-plot (there is the AI thing but it's been barely developed) and interesting secondary cast along with too much focus in the menial parts are what make this different (although Only Sense Online is pretty much the same) but at the same time boring imo.

Utter garbage

This manga is ridiculously childish and the same goes for the novel. It's also not amusing at all. It insults games and gamers alike, not to mention that it insults your intelligence with half-baked knowledge and world building/story. A score of 8/10? It's barely worth 5/10.

The thing that makes this so bad is that it underestimates games, gamers and makes stuff utterly and completely illogical all the time. The stupid jokes that just doesn't work because it's more annoying than funny doesn't help.

Let's mention a few things. First of all, NO one seems to have chosen crafting professions because it's "unnecessary". I call utter bullsh*t on that one, especially in a VR game but no matter what game it is, some people like to do that stuff and they're not that rare, that it's not that beneficial doesn't matter, it never does. Normally it has to do with achievements and doing stuff, but in a VR game it would just be funny nonetheless.

Then there's skills. The very idea that some skills would be completely useless is stupid, especially things related to weapon use, just how f*cking bad is the programmers if they can't even somewhat balance things? A profession or skill is NEVER useless, be it real life or a game, everything that matters is how skilled you are at it -.-

Oh, the mc plays around 2 hours a day and manages to keep up with anyone and everyone. He's also not serious at all and never trains, yet he somehow owns the more hardcore gamers, even PvPers are trash in front of him for some reason, having inferior gear and skill doesn't matter because he's so f*cking awesome despite the fact that he should be useless. Just how stupid does the author think we are?

When cooking, for some reason he gets "kidnapped" by people because they want to taste his dishes. So, what does he do? Yeah, every time he logs in, he's "forced" to cook for people while he actually wants to go elsewhere and play the game, but no, for some reason he can't imagine the idea of saying "no!" or just walking away, he just complains and cries. I think anyone would get the message that he's not going to cook for them, there's also no pressure in an online game, who would even hate him for it? Unless they're retarded, they would understand that it's nothing wrong with wanting to do other things with your time. By the way, they don't mind waiting for very long times just to get some slightly tasty boost food, who'd even waste so much time standing in line when you can do funnier things inside a game?

Then there's the part where suddenly, there's a message from an unknown adventurer to everyone and all potions etc disappear from shops because people shouldn't get comfortable and they want people to appreciate crafting professions! So, suddenly the mc is pretty much the most popular guy around and just spends all of his time crafting crap for everyone, because he's pretty much the only crafter around. What are the possibilities of something like that happening? Absolutely zero. There's no way things would just disappear from shops without any forewarning, or at all. There are other ways to make crafters useful enough to make it a viable profession. But, no, like everything else, just f*ck logic.

Just how badly does the author want to make the mc into a godlike existence? If he wanted that, he should've played by the rules, made the mc play games at least 8 hours a day and he should've put in a lot of effort to get good at everything. He shouldn't have made the mc into an "ordinary middle aged guy" that doesn't have the motivation to do anything much with supposedly crappy skills. He should've played within the boundaries of what is possible in a game world.

You can't just say that "it's fine because it's a game!". Nope, it's not. Even games work around certain rules and regulations because they'd be shitty games that just doesn't work otherwise. There are things that has to be true for a game to be a proper game. Some things are impossible no matter how much you stretch your imagination and this manga/novel is full of that kind of crap to the bursting limit. Even fantasy worlds need rules/laws and some things can't be changed without turning the entire thing into crap that not only insults itself but also insults us, the readers. It needs to be somewhat realistic, somewhat possible and logically sound. But all too often do I find that some authors just doesn't understand something so fundamental. Why are they even authors in the first place since they clearly aren't good at it?

Honestly, I mainly cringed and even got irritated by the extreme logical fallacies present in this garbage manga. How can I laugh at it when it's just moronic and stupid? Things are usually funny because the things they do are POSSIBLE although unlikely, preferably it should also be RELATABLE. But this has none of those qualities.

Maybe someone who've never been a gamer before and doesn't understand how absurd and idiotic it is would like this far more.

While the initial premise showed great potential, the author loses focus on any central narrative and generally throws in various plot elements on a whim.

Past a certain point in the story, he ditches some of the established characters for very loosely contrived reasoning, at which point all character growth and any sense of meaningful plot progression stagnate. While there still exists a hidden narrative the author has yet to build upon but has hinted at throughout, it has not contributed interest to the protagonist, feels artificial and cliched.

Subjectively, I would have liked to see the story go a different route, and the recent events have essentially boiled down to a bland stream of tediousness, repeating the motions aimlessly, and thus fails to build upon the potential of the initial premise.

Note: Reviewed purely from the perspective of the manga with no prior knowledge of the light-novel.

Story is really good. Just a really nice slice of life for the guy playing a new mmo. The characters are amusing, and it spends a decent amount of time with the main character purposely pursuing unusual skills, just for fun. Basically a story about a dude having as much fun as possible playing an mmo casually.

I really love the story, art and the character. The story pretty funny, i laughs every page i read. The is simple but suitable for the story. The character is very interesting where the main character look weak but have great ideas all the time while his friend always demand his item like his cooking and potion. This series is really open my mind about why everyone pick the strong class, item and more in a game. Remind me of ninja saga, where i pick wind attribute to increase my chance of evasion and water attribute for healing but my friend always choose the fire and lightning for great damage. Hopefully there will be more chapter for it really is an amazing series. can't wait to read it.. As Jandalman say need moar!

I initially feared this MMO manga would be yet another The Gamer, possibly the worst manhwa I've ever read. (As for why, see my review there.)

But this isn't as bad. Yes, there's zero suspense or conflict, but at least the story doesn't focus purely on grinding. And there's no pretense of a plot, but that leaves space for, as I mentioned, a decent-ish slice-of-life story (at least as of the first ~9 chapters).

This series is pretty good. As drunkguy wrote in his review, casual/crafter MMO players can immediately relate to the MC. The MC himself is pretty funny (first time he killed a monster with his arrow kick combo made me lol hard) and he does end up being pretty badass, pwning the bully player in an epic way that resulted in said bully and his gang to quit the game out of shame (which I dearly wish happens irl gaming)

Here's to hoping another scanlator team picks this series up now that the current group had dropped it.

Strangely enough this manga is quite entertaining. I don't play mmo's all that often, but it reminded me of a server where healers were like a needle in a hay stack. Anyway. Even with a simple art and lighthearted storytelling this a good read.
