What else is there to say? The maggots scene is just plain stupid and is just infuriating for the sake of being infuriating. There's no logic behind it. What, do they just have a bowl of maggots lying around for this one specific scenario? Man, they must be S-Tier level dickheads to think of this shit in advance.
Okay sure they hate nobles. Why would they publicly antagonize them? Are they stupid? Did they not think "Oh, they might send their guards to get us if we do something bad." Doesn't matter if you're the God of dickheads but they just have no brains. To make someone eat a bowl of maggots and expect nothing to happen is pure idiocy.

One does not simply hype up an eldritch horror, with mental manipulation powers, and show a character experiencing the insanity, only to immediately follow it up with a timeskip to a nonsensical happy-go-lucky environment. Literally no one but the author thinks it's a real part of the plot instead of an illusion arc that uncomfortably dragged on for too long.
