I get a lot of historical J-drama feelings out of the manga. And it's just melodrama, damn sad for me despite the good delivery of both Yaeko Yamamoto's life and history in general.
Still, it's damn sad the ending and the life of Ms. Yamamoto for me. Although I cannot assume if she was contented the way it turned out or not. Could have been a different story if she was born this age 🙁
Yae no Sakura portrays historical events in an interesting way, turning them into more personal events. The characters are appealing and charismatic, but I dislike with how cliched they are. I don't take issue with the protagonist for being a strong woman. I take issue with the overused setup of [girl is superior to other boys] > [pretty much everyone is sexist] > [young girl asks "why can't women be treated equal"] > [girl's brother or older companion s her]. I also have suspicions regarding historical accuracy, glorification, and dramatization, but those aren't relevant to how interesting the manga is. Ultimately, in honesty, those are minor complaints. Story plays a bigger role than them and creates an interesting manga.
I don't normally like past japan historical anime(coz they are used alot and I know who will die and what will happen). But this manga's strongest point is not the storyor plot, according on what I seen till chapter 8. This story's strongest point is character. The female lead is cute and strong willed. Mature and immature at the same time. You can't help but like her
well that's what happened to me, I have the feeling that this is going to be my all times favorite manga, it's like the combination of my favorite historical anime (Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto) with a Emma-like theme about historical slice-of-life and women in the past days (mainly that were strong women in the past), I hope I'm not wrong on this one.
