But I don’t know how I was able to read almost 300 chapters of this story and still feel like there should have been more. At no point was I ever bored, which is such a feat because my ADHD brain can’t handle most 80 chapter manhwas. There was always a fight I wanted to see. Never got tired of punches being thrown. But the great thing about this manhwa is the connection between the characters. Even the bond between the antagonists. Bromances held no discriminations, except for maybe Wolf. I loved how close Gray got with his friends, how willing they were to stand by each other’s sides and fight. There was so much self-reflection and improvement and reaching new heights. Again Wolf is an exception from all this, but somehow despite being a piece of shit he is one of my favorites. What a great character, how do you even write such a bastard to be so charming to the audience. Hardly a single good quality in him, I love him.
I love a lot of the characters actually, even the ones I didn’t think I was going to like. Donald Na included. The backstories were compelling. Some of them being heartbreaking, like Gray’s. The star of the show. Gray was just a little runt so it was amazing to see how he used his wit and lack of fighting scruples to win the advantage. His fights were always the best. I got so hyped up every time he’d get pissed. You knew you were in for a a real treat. It helped too that the art style is good and the way Gray is drawn with that kind of ice princess beauty despite his fighting style was such a great contrast.
The psychological and mental battles were an aspect of this comic I think were well done (Gray overcoming his fear!!!!!). Although I wish that this had been
delved into much deeper regarding the ending. We saw a Gray who was traumatized and blaming himself in a very destructive way, and then it was just brushed aside. Why even bring up such a good plot point if it’s going to be ignored in the next ending chapter. I appreciate that the author acknowledged the ending was disappointing though. I feel better knowing that he also knew it came up short and accept his apology haha. Lastly, Donald shouldn’t have died. Speaking both from a place as a reader who likes him and plot-wise and symbolically. I don’t know, I would have much preferred an ending where he and Gray did get to be friends. I would have loved that. That way I could have maybe gotten another 100-200 chapters with another developing obstacle. Sigh.
Don’t flame me but I kind of liked the idea and Gray and that girl Lily together. I agree romance has no place in this story, but I was kind of rooting for them to at least interact more. She was a cool character.
