Description

Yamato (ML) is trash.

Some spoilers below...
If you want to read another manga about a ML who treats all the women who come after him the same as he does his girlfriend (sometimes even better or at the expense of how his girlfriend feels), then this is the manga for you. Dude can't tell women, "no, I won't come and eat dinner at your house, where you live alone, late at night for weeks while I ignore my girlfriend. Yes I know you confessed to me the first time you met me and said you don't care if I have a girlfriend. It's fine, I'm just a nice guy!" or "no, of course I still love my girlfriend even though I can't tell her the friend I'm meeting is a woman and no I won't push you away when you try to drunkenly kiss me. Instead, I'll keep treating you the same and take cute pictures of you like I do my girlfriend. But I'm totally not interested in you! What gave you that idea?!"

Chapter 65 out of the 68 or something chapters, dude is still unable to treat his girlfriend better. Trust in a relationship is one thing but you have to EARN it. You can't be untrustworthy, being too busy to talk to your girlfriend, letting drunk girls kiss you and not doing anything about it, letting them flirt with you and lead them on and act surprised that you're a bad boyfriend. Mei ONLY found out about all this because her friend saw Yamato and the girl he was leading on out and about. Him carrying her shopping bags, eating off her plate, etc. Then Mei calls him out on it and he's all, "oh...I might've lead her on...I know I've done this in the past but like...I won't do it again..." and doesn't tell Mei to the full extent of anything (doesn't tell her about the kiss, doesn't tell the other woman to back off, nooootthiinng). He acts like he's powerless in these situations where he leads other women on and are surprised Mei is upset? Or surprised the women fall for him? When he treats them better than his girlfriend?? Or CHOOSES to be with them INSTEAD of his girlfriend?? What could possibly give these women the idea they had a chance?

So yeah. Yamato is trash.

Say i Love you is the story about a girl who is anti social to the point that she has no friends because of a singular event that happened when she was 5 years old. First year of highschool she suddenly gets boyfriend. The story is about her coming out of her shell. Becoming more mellow gaining friends and self confidence throughout the series. Now even though this sounds good its just kinda boring. Now I liked the cute moments that came with the MMC and FMC but its just so boring. There is little build up. No tension. Things just happen. Now the series is set over 10 years. the first 15 volumes being about high school, volume 16,17 being about college and 18 being post college. The thing was though it was actually confusing to keep up. Years would go by and it wouldn't really be explained at the same time the author would spend so much time over one thing you'd think there were still in first year. The only well written character in the series was Megu arguably the main heroine rival for the FMC. But she was easily the best to read about. She wants to the be the best model and the things she do and her pain that suffers through. She was literally the only reason i enjoyed the manga. There were other moments that involved other characters but like they were just far too few. Overall the story is pretty straightforward. Being about the cute moments of the Main characters and the side characters. However cuteness aside the series felt shallow. The only Character that wasn't shallow (hilariously) was Megu who's personality trait was being shallow. 6/10. Kind of a waste of talent from the author.

I must it some tropes are repeated and you can definitely tell this is a shoujo, but aside from that the art style is very unique and the characters are very loveable. The plot kept me reading until the end!

I really enjoyed the first couple of volumes of this manga, but unfortunately found myself getting a little bored soon after. =3= I mostly just finished it to see the ending, but it gets suuuuper repetitive very fast. The relationship between Yamato and Mei is very pure and I loved their interactions with each other and how Mei's world starts to expand. But then it starts to fall into the pitfall that most high school shoujo manga falls into -- the romantic triangles. This managed to avoid that pretty nicely, but it's amazing exactly how many boys would fall for Mei or Yamato. The girl that wanted Yamato during the college arc was completely unnecessary and with no real reason for how hardcore she went after him.

Megu's story was pretty interesting, but I felt that her sudden rival model was sudden and didn't actually have much impact on anything. Same with the rival model's twin brother that falls for Mei. That went exactly nowhere as expected, completely extraneous and unneeded. I would have preferred reading more about Mei and Yamato's relationship deepening without these random factors thrown in to give them some really unnecessary jealousy arcs.

Honestly, I skimmed those arcs and only really paid attention when Mei and the core group from high school was involved.

The art does improve as the series continues though the scrawny legs and doll feet does continue lol.

The lost art of the Japanese Epilogue

This is one of only a handful of manga I've read that continued the story past the 'climax'. The last few volumes show the characters year-by-year after graduating highschool and how their lives shifted. It ties up all the loose ends and leaves the reader with a warm satisfied feeling.

Nice cast of characters

It's surprisingly romantic since, unlike in many shoujos, you have a realistic portrayal of physical attraction. It features a number of different friendships, including between side characters, rather than the 'ML and FL each have 1-2 friends that only exist when with the leads' situation. I love how it shows their lives after high school and the challenges they encounter in a much more realistic way than 'work hard and you'll get what you want'. Megumi was one of my favourite characters by the end because she had a great story, minus the nonsense when she first appeared.

Weaknesses: too many love rivals, though I did like how some of them were handled (specifically Ren and Rin). There was also a point when the story was delving too much into appearance and 'looking cute' for my taste - I understand that it's trying to be relatable to teenage girls, but one of the things that I loved about Mei in the beginning was that she didn't give AF. Interestingly the story comes full circle in the end, which I suppose is realistic (not caring, then caring, then growing up and being confident and not caring), so I guess that I don't mind.

Overall while it wasn't perfect, I think it did a good job of covering serious themes and giving me characters who I wanted to cheer for.

I read some chapters from this manga when it first came out, but I dropped it because the ML was too much of a f**kboy. He would so easily agree to have sex or kiss any woman who asked him for "help". He also reminds me of those annoying ML's that fall into the category of "Hero saves the Beauty" and that is exactly what he does to the FL when she calls him one day to ask for help to get a stalker off her back. This manga also reminds me of a Cinderella story [which I despise]. FL is weak hearted with low self esteem, so I wouldn't really call her a "strong female lead". I don't know. Her character just rubs me the wrong way. There's nothing wrong with a FL with low self esteem and I've seen them grow into strong women from other novels and manga's I've read, but the FL in this manga is written poorly. Skip Beat had a low self-esteem FL, but she grew stronger and like-able as the story progressed. Not this FL. I don't despise her, but I also don't like her either. She just stayed on the neutral side to me.

As for the ML, I despised him. Not a likable character. He falls under the cliche smut ML department, reminds me too much of them to be honest. So what would be different from reading this to a smut manga? Not much. Same old story. The author tried to bring smut themes into a shoujo romance book that included topics on high-school students having sex and I applaud her for that, but that was poorly executed due to cliche characters. Not a single character was likable in this story. Ah, wait. Scratch that. Their was one character that I didn't find too bad. "Kai Takemura",

the friend of the ML in middle-school who got bullied. This guy was the guy that I preferred FL ended up with in the end ! , but sadly that didn't happened. He backed off and decided to stay as friends with FL because he didn't want to hurt the ML feelings as they were friends since middle school. Now that's a nice guy! He knows his limits and boundaries. ML on the other hand, does not know his limits and boundaries. Especially even before he started dating FL.

After dropping the series, I came back to read spoilers when I saw that this manga had already ended. And I have to say, it didn't get any better. More disappointment.

I was even more annoyed because one of the characters in the series that becomes the friend of the FL later on in the manga had a past relationship with the ML (they had sex out of her request and he FUCKING AGREED even though they were NOT dating). So many red flags with that. I also reading a spoiler that said that he kissed another girl to keep bullies off her [which he did the same to the FL to keep a stalker off her, like WTF?!]. I don't know how the fudge was he able "fall-in-love" with the FL after a kiss if he did the same thing to other girls (whom also had similar personalities to the FL, so it was weird that he didn't fall in-love with them too). Gosh.This felt like a force relationship the author wanted to happen to get the plot in the direction of a "romance" story. sighs This is just poor story telling and character development. "Oh, I like that you are 'unique' after I kissed you"?! Like other woman aren't unique as well? Dude, every living thing was born with a unique set of features and personalities, though some people have similar personalities as they age and try to fit in with society standards. Funny thing is, he dated her because she was "unique" or "different" than the "other" women he's encounter in his life. What difference will it make if he meets another woman he defines as "unique/different" after meeting the FL? He must be BS me.

Even Skip Beat had better character development and plot, though it's still an on-going series and the genre is a bit different. But they both fall under the "romance shoujo" department with similar themes (unpopular FL changing and expressing herself more, ML caused her to view things differently and open up more - basically moral for FL).

If the ML is like this in the manga during high-school, imagine how it is like after marriage. I don't care if he loves her now, but I can foresee unfaithfulness in this relationship in the future if things drift apart between the two. The ML is too loose. That's all I got to say.

Also, an apology for the crude language and some spoilers given. This manga made me so frustrated with the characters and plot development. I've read other mature romance books and even they're better than this. What kind of man has sex or gives kisses with every female who asks for help when they're not in a relationship?! That's just gross. I know men like this exist in real life and I still find it gross too. No matter what, it's not right and is rude especially if you do it to a girl (like the FL) who's just asking for HELP. Did he have to kiss her to get the stalker off her back? No! He could have just called the F'n police! THAT'S WHAT POLICE ARE FOR! ISN'T THIS MANGA SET IN MODERN SOCIETY?! They have phones, but don't know how to use it! Or is the police so useless there as well that they can't even ask them for help to get a stalker arrested?

I don't recommend reading this series. If you like cliche "playboy who treats every woman with care even if he has a girlfriend he loves because he thinks it's his job to cater to all those woman feelings as he wants to be the 'nice guy'", then be my guest and read it. But if you're like me and don't like stories/manga/etc like this, stay far away from this.

It was very nice it ended well... I like how fast the transition no more extra suspense. Just a little will make me bitter and disappointed. But none of it there so. I love it. Thank you so much.

Character Growth and Shoujo Cliches

I started reading this when this manga was at the peak of its popularity. I did enjoy it when I first started reading it, but after a while the plot has begun moving slowly and it feels as if the only movement that happens is introducing new characters rather than having the original characters' growths. I agree with a lot of the reviewers that this manga has been dragging on a little longer than it should have, but the earlier character growth is one of the highlights of the manga.

This manga follows many shoujo tropes, so if you really like these types of stories, you'll probably enjoy this one. The two distinctive things about this manga are the artwork and the inclusion of sex and some more mature themes. I don't feel strongly about the artwork in any particular way, and the more mature themes are a refreshing aspect that a lot of other shoujos don't tackle.

Overall, I'm pretty neutral about this manga; it's not one of my favorites and it's not one of my least favorites. Maybe it's just the later chapters, but the characters have felt a little stale if that makes any sense? If I was asked to describe them, I wouldn't be able to say anything particularly distinctive about them.

Its nothing special, the characters are okay but not a stand out. the storyline drags for way too long surprisingly, normally a good story that isn't repetitive can last around 100 chapters but in this manga at around 50 chapters im already bored of it.
