Girls: I like the smart, independent, confidant ones. Doesn't cry to the guy every page, doesn't get bullied because she can't stand up for herself, doesn't throw herself at the guy because she starts to like him. Definitely not the type who fall in love at first sight an then can't even talk to him because she's so shy.
Guys: I don't get annoyed with the guys so easily, as long as they're not playboys, then pretty much every other type I like.

Someone normal. Not over the top strong and violent, nor too weak and timid. I guess I just love interesting characters, preferably those who do a lot of funny things xD And also, I like strong, stable characters who can function well even without their love interests.
Quote from pearlized
bishounens who are good at everything. I want one. 🙁 though their taste in girls is normally pretty bad. =P
Lol yeah! I like the yanigere types for girls or just your comedic girl (whom I prefer that she would be smart, but stupid ne?) As for guys, I like the nice guy type, that is quite normal and preferably not 'handsome' XD. I also like guys like Yakumo from Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
I'm in idol hell T.T

Normal characters.
The ones that you can believe could exist in real life that don't grate on your nerves (because there could be exceptionally clumsy/naive people, or really nice ones, but they tend to be annoying in manga).

Androgynous characters or normal ones.
Female: intelligent, sympathetic, but not a doormat. Strong, comfortable in her own skin, isn't a crybaby, and able to handle situations without always needing the guy's help. Her whole life doesn't revolve around the guy. Average in looks and not suffering from Dawson's Creek Syndrome.
Male: non-possessive, not perfect, not abusive. And not a bad boy (makes the story that much more predictable). I can't think of anything else for the male lead.

Girl and guy - humorous, someone over the top, super flashy, over-confident, isn't nosy, isn't a good guy/girl, always smiles but under that facade is something else, clever and witty.
or - a overly serious person, serious in anything s/he does once had his/her mind set. Whether it's a game or at life, s/he is serious.
And the two of those types only care about themselves, outsiders can fuck off

Character that have confidence in their skill, strong willed, protective and.......... smexy bishie
- plus point (for girl) if she wasn't tsundere/ ended up hitting the main character for every chapter for no purpose.

The independent (but slightly awkward) oddball. This goes for both male and female characters.

The guy who seems like a scary delinquent but is actually good-hearted and the smartest person in the entire school without even trying/caring.
While that may be my favorite kind of character, I'm actually jealous that I can't be that person. Also, I'm resentful that I've never met a (straight) guy like that, so that I can snatch him (T_T)

Guy- Overly Jealous, smart, really popular but can only see the lead girl, will use any type of strategy to get what he wants which makes him a bit petty
Girl- Independent but a bit dependent of her 'lover', possessive, smart, responsible,
I have yet to find the manga with my perfect characters.... hmmmm so yea... I like psychological mangas...
Omnomnomnom Yaoi lovers can be straight too
Let's just run off to Jeju Island? Ok?

Male: humorous, confident, and not a badboy or self-involved prince. basically, not much preference here if they're funny.
Girl: same as above. at least somewhat responsible and smart...denseness is a given in a lot of shoujo. if the female lead does cry, she does it for the right reasons. also, she's not annoyingly cheerful or the dependent type who takes abuse. i really like "strong" (but not to the point of where her independence is irrationally extreme and leads her to do stupid things) or straightforward girls, like the leads from Saver and Gokusen

I like my characters in their teens to early twenties. Bishounen guy at least average looking girl.
Girl-
non-tsundere
not around the bend
not popular (doesn't have a harem or silly gossip)
clever
good at acting
has severe character flaw(s)
interesting
Guy-
major flaw(s)
clever
interesting
Potential for psychological warfare/mind games/battle of wits. I've read a few things that might qualify, but one of them always dies, is reformed, or it's a freakin' one time deal. Also the girls almost aways ended up using their bodies-a total deal breaker for me. Can't stand it when guys do it either now that I think about it. 😔
I like my men androgynous.
I like my women androgynous.
