What does everyone feel about the fanart that often gets included with a Manga? Usually, they're found at the end of each chapter and might include original drawings by fans and/or colored artwork from the manga. 4z1t5x

For me, I tend to skim over them quickly and forget about them in the next second. Although there are some fanart that are a sight to behold, I tend to focus more on my manga reading.

Anyone out there that save such fanart or use them for wallpapers? Or does it tickle your creative juices, and inspire you to create your own fanart? Just like to hear your thoughts on this matter. 😉

i enjoy taking a quick look at them, but nothing more. It is very seldom that i actually like one.

generally most are quite crap, but every now and then you get one that shows off what people with talent can do

Not sure if you could call it fanart, but I like to read the ones where they replace the text in the speech bubbles and fill it with text that turns some scenes in the manga into a total joke.

I think it's quite enjoyable as long as the amount of 'extras' is moderate.

I agree, the odd few pieces of well done fan art or fan colouring can be nice but when they put in absolutely anything they can get their hands on or include whole chunks of art that i feel obliged to check through incase there is something good, it kinda annoys me. To see fan art it's easy enough to check the web?

Well, when it's a printed book, usually I'll take a second and read/see at least some of 'em (like Negima!), especially if it's for a series I love because then I feel as if I'm getting a bit more of it. 😁 like with Fruits Basket. But as far as scanlation-included fanart, it's rare that I save anything to my compy, and most of it I just see the file name and skip past it. But that's mostly due in part to the fact of my impatience and I just wanna get thru the actual material as fast as I can. 😛 Sadly I've only fleetingly been 'inspired' by fanart from scanlations, but others I've seen on art sites have truly caught my attention. (this is a good topic, kinda unusual.... just my taste)

The only way fanart gets on my pc is if it's added within the chapter/volume.

I usually don't take a look at it though, I'm more interested in the manga ^^

I skim over it briefly while I'm deleting it. Other than that almost never look at it.

I think that with Bleach, it's getting to the point where I'll read the chapter JUST for the fanart that Maximum7 includes. Nothing's HAPPENED the last two chapters. But other then Bleach, none of the manga I get has fanart included in it. I think there was one chapter of One Piece from NBST that had some, but it was only three wallpapers (which were all awesome) and some color pages of when Luffy promised to defeat Arlong for Nami. It may have been the same thing, just colored, but it was colored very well, and it was the Arlong arc, so I didn't mind.

When I took part in that fanart poll, I was thinking "oh some scanslators decided to include potentially some bad fanart" (and even that the (bad) fanart is there own. >_> If that's the case, I cringe and wince. I wasn't thinking of the little fan comics or tinbits. DGT ends up making "fanart" then with the logo picture with an image from the manga modified or some effects applied to it. But anyhow, I would hope scanslation groups would know not to double the size of a release because of the fanart. If it takes up that much, it might as well be a separate file to enjoy.

But I wonder if people feel the same way about the "extras" (not the omake) included with manga scanslations (I would think people would be even more "for" them). With Hikaru no Go, Toriyama World included the character polls. I'm sure it was only in Shounen Jump, but it was really fun to check it out. 🙂 Maybe the magazine "extras" are a bit more encouragement for fans to subscribe other than to get the chapters faster than in volumes, and to get the freebies with the magazine. 😁
