i think they already eliminated the provision that allows copyright holders to shutdown websites and they have put it on hold in the house. so for the time being sopa wont get ed. and thats mostly thanks to google's counter lobbying efforts. although the senate version pipa is still a danger 3w6h43

You know what if this bill was ed you think they'd have to change the civic/history books term

Prior Restraint-
One of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the freedom from prior restraint. Derived from English Common Law, the rule against prior restraint prohibits government from banning expression of ideas prior to their publication. The rule against prior restraint is based on the principle that Freedom of the Press is essential to a free society.

You know sometimes the goventment and my OWN country makes me sick >.<
I had to open my webster's dictionary just to look up the word lol
Anyways if your gonna ignore the 1st amendment WHY did our founding fathers make it you know....
I think they'd be crying in their graves if they saw the world now.....
Sorry this is just the rambling of girl who loves politics and history 😀

It baffles me how such toxic waste is still alive when republican and democratic voters find SOPA and PIPA vile. The list of candidates ing them should be a list of candidates asking to be tarred and feathered.

It's because the majority of American voters don't pay attention to what congressmen do, and just vote for their party or for whichever candidate gets the most praise in the media. When the bank bailouts were being considered a few years back, like 99% of the people calling their congressmen urged them not to the bailouts, but after those congressmen voted for the bailouts, they were still voted back into office. Congress has only as much ability to the American public as we care to hold them to, and they know it.

statutes are always ed that contradict the bill of rights (2012's NDAA/Patriot Act) lol, it's pretty much normal...it happened during the founding fathers era (Sedition act) and it happens to us now in contemporary times....except we have the judiciary branch to repeal these bills if someone decides to take litigation actions towards the government...though i doubt they will be much help..since they ruled that corporations are people...sounds like they're pro corporations...

but anyways...yeah i doubt this bill will ...both houses are having trouble trying to get majority approval on the bills...as well as mass petitions and power house companies like: Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Wikipedia, etc. Are voicing their opinions, i just wish Facebook would be a little louder (like a black out)...if these bills i doubt the DNS blocking provision will still be apart of this bill since this is getting the most flak.

If SOPA es (according to Wikipedia and Russia Today, it's losing ), are we still going to be able to (read manga / watch anime) online? If the manga-hosting-server were located outside the US, it would be out of SOPA's reach, right?

the main purpose of sopa is to allow the government to block servers outside the us that have copyright material

I sent an email to all three of my reps ... two senators & my congressman, telling them it was a bad bill.

That's pretty much all you can do ...

So if SOPA/PIPA do not , I wonder how long it will be before another of their type pops up.

i should point out, that from what i understand, the bills that are currently in discussion are very (for lack of a better term) limped versions of the originals, and from what i understand the DNS blocking provision is no longer in the bill edit or from what i understand it so narrowly written now that the DNS blocking provision is not as frightening as it was in late October
