God first off I don't like the idea of an American version. For one, there's already a perfectly good japanese one. Two, Americans usually ruin things like this. And three, uh its set in JAPAN. Raito and L are JAPANESE. Its in godfucking Tokyo!! I mean, I got kinda pissed at Memoirs of a Geisha b/c everyone spoke english but then again the novel was written by an non-japanese person. But this is an already Japanese thing, and don't get me I'm not some 'japanese purist' I get mad about this stuff no matter what culture/country it is. (I loved letters from Iwo Jima b/c it was in Japanese)
And please. Having that douche Zac Efron play Light would make my eyes bleed. I hate that High School Musical shit and all the little disney channel tards. Anyone who likes that crap-pile of shitty acting, plot, dialouge, ect should be immediatly sent to rehab.
Personally, Death Note is okay, and I like the Japanese movie. And I'd like to keep things like that.

As much as I would hate to go through another "Death-Note mania madness"...wait...let me rant a little on that.
*Kids going around with L avatars/names EVERYWHERE! msn, yahoo, forums,dA, you name it, they've had it.
Kids going around carrying a Death Note, coz it's always awesome to tell people you would like to be a murderer.
Kids wearing white long sleeve shirts with baggy jeans and no shoes and sits like a monkey while biting their thumb.*
Anywho...back to the topic.
Don't forget that it's an american transition. Like "The Ring" and "The Eye", it doesn't have to be set in asia, which, in this case, is Tokyo. No need to go ballistic and swearing off just 'coz you hate the idea...really not neccessary :\

Look at what was done with the departed. The departed was based on a trilogy of chinese films.

"無間道" was'nt that good to me , But then again i dont like movies like "The Departed" so i dont feel why you hate "The Departed" .But that's only one movie it can't mean all movie's made with a U.S feel will be bad.

hah! Although the Departed was fairly decent.... Infernal Affairs was way better.
Tony Leung chiu wai and Andy Lau~ ftw!!
now to return to the topic:
I think I'd expect a disappointment....It's gonna turn into another overrated-overhyped hollywood remake thats gonna be short-lived because I have a feeling its gonna be overdone...no subtlety....it's gonna be all flashy....not even worth in my collection....
although hehe seeing an american doing Raito is a different thing though (unless they resort to asian imports)

I loved the departed i should have mentioned that.
I never watched infernal affairs.
But dont say something is bad until you experienced it yourself. you'll never know until you try.

I know HOW DARE PEOPLE TAKE SOMETHING AND TRY TO MAKE IT APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE OF THEIR COUNTRY!!!1111!
You know there are jdramas that are set in other places (, Italy, U.S.) and you know what they aren't terrible. :/
Also, the Zac for Light thing is because they look similar that's all. They really do look alike. :/ I can't speak of his acting skills but limiting because he works for Disney seems like a pretty douchey thing on your part.
rightoues indignation for serious.

You know just because you hate something doesn't make it horrible. 🤣 Like I mentioned I've never seen HSM and I really don't plan on it but I've heard the exact same thing said about Death Note. 🤨 And i've heard HSM is amazing. :?

thats just wrong. we (americans) were already tortured, and still are, with the power rangers remakes, and sailormoon almost became this half live action, half cartoon disaster . I dont know why manga publishers and anime translators feel the need to americanize everything (why i hate dubbed anime). its just making the readers/watchers more ignorant to other cultures' entertainment. I'm not necessarily a fan of death note but some things are too much.

Zac Efron is the only possible Light Yagami.
Just watch the first episode of the anime. When Light talks with Ryuk about becoming the new god, he has the same "stupid" happy look on his face that Zac has. I mean, if it were possible,... he is/was already Kira, used the Death Note already, but somehow lost that part of his memory and ended up playing a role in High School Musical, (or that's just the price for having used the notebook.)
I don't know if he could play evil, but he is a good actor. But I know for sure, that he will be a better Light, than the Japanese live-action one, Tatsuya Fujiwara, though the acting at the end of the second movie wasn't that bad.
And Zac has a perpect body, not some strange looking body (Tatsuya Fujiwara).
