i'm looking for a manga that focuses on a soldier at war 172e3c

i would prefer if they were infantry but other sections in the military are fine as long as there is combat involved

Love Story, Killed - a one-shot spinoff from SaiKano, which might also fit depending on how real-world realistic you were looking for.

yeah saikano
and maybe
basara
code geass(watch the anime) he does the commanding though(hes a genius 😀 ),i really like how he's not your typical perfect-in-everyway shounen(seinen?) lead..hes very bad at direct combat/fighting
Hoshi no Koe is highly recommended
neon genesis evangelion must read/watch !

All Quiet on Lawson War Front
It is meant to be a parody though.

Ares; They're mercenaries hired by a countries army, not exactly soldiers.
Berserk

Grey, if you don't mind a post-apocalyptic setting.

Not really sure if he belongs to the military but it's about a battleship vs other battleships. As in: navy.

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio

Also oops... I forgot: maybe Shingeki no Kyojin

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Red eyes here.
Zipang- they're in the navy though.

I totally second this... also maybe Kidou Ryodan Hachifukujin

For a bit of historical in your fiction, there's Cat Shit One, which deals with soldiers in the Vietnam War (albeit substituted with anthropomorphized animals) in a detail-rich setting.

Ares is a must. Dont mind the art, the story is one of the best in history.

Break Blade - though the protagonist did not really want to become a soldier in the first place, but he kinda got into it. It's with some mecha in it too.

Fullmetal Alchemist, what you might call Steampunk. The protagonist are all soldiers.

Gunka no Baltzar Good manga about soldiers with a 19th century european setting not the traditional asian/japanese one.

Shingeki no Kyojin You've probably heard of it already, if not check it out.

Bokko The MC is original : old and relies more on wits than usual in this kind of manga. The manga is about a siege in ancient china. He's more a general than a regular soldier, but there's still lots of combat where he's involved.

Koukoku no Shugosha A decent manga about war/soldiers. The battle tigers idea is interesting if a little cheap.

All You Need Is Kill Relatively short but good. The recent movie Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise is based on it.

Black Lagoon in setting and mood.
