Our Aleph0 wants to know if you have an opinion on Daylight Savings. I'm sure many of you don't live in areas where this happens, but some of us who do have very vocal opinions on this topic. 5x11e

You can submit poll ideas here https://mangaupdates.conexionsite.com/topic/kilkdnn/site-manga-poll-suggestions

Previous Poll Results:

Question: What do you consider yourself?

Choices:

  • Introvert - votes: 1795 (72%)
  • Extrovert - votes: 106 (4.3%)
  • Ambivert - votes: 593 (23.8%)

There were 2494 total votes. The poll ended: December 21, 2024

So extroverts don't typically talk online about their hobbies. They probably just talk in-person about them

It really sucks when they turn it on/off sometimes.

Not only is it super inconvenient to change clocks and adjust to the sudden time shift twice a year, but the loss of an hour of sleep when DST starts is terrible for your health and is associated with an increase in things like car accidents, it's like getting jet lag on purpose twice a year for no good reason.

The AMA endorses ending DST altogether and staying in permanent standard time, and they include this quote from a statement by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine:

“The U.S. should eliminate seasonal time changes in favor of a national, fixed, year-round time,” says the position statement, adding that “current evidence best s the adoption of year-round standard time, which aligns best with human circadian biology and provides distinct benefits for public health and safety.”

And personally, if I'm honest, I just don't like it, and I don't see any significant benefit from it that would be anywhere close to outweighing the downsides.

It was invented to preserve candles... With electric lamps though saving are not as obvious as people don't use electricity in same way candles were used historically... It is not 19th century anymore so DST sucks now

I hate the one where 12am is 12am. I want to permanently be in the one where 1am is 12am. If that makes sense. I hate when I leave work and it's super dark out. Like I'd almost rather keep changing times than keep that one

Don't like it. Really annoying.

....But anyways, am I the only one who can't access their lists?

Quote from Yunwu

This should be resolved now

It's spring forward, fall back, with the "forward" being DST, so that's the one where you lose an hour and a result have to get up an hour earlier and start your morning in the dark. So it's actually not a problem of 12am being 12am, it's a problem of 11pm being 12am (or depending on what time you get up and leave, something like 5am being 6am).

But anyway, the solution to that would be to just end DST and switch to permanent standard time.

The people who want to keep DST as it is or have permanent DST probably like it because it means the sun sets later, but of course, that "extra" hour of light has to come from somewhere, so anyone getting up in the morning has to get up in the dark.

I see that there is no option for "I like it" or any other expression of liking/endorsement DST :)
After all, no one actually likes DST.

Aside from how most people find it annoying, frustrating, infuriating, uncomfortable etc...
It has a great number of well documented and proven drawbacks (and with pretty serious effects) ...and no real benefits, whatsoever, of any kind. Certainly nothing that could ever hope to overshadow the severe drawbacks. This is inarguable.

I've always observed that the effect daylight savings time is the opposite of what it claims. I've always had more light without it, and if it never existed, would still end up having more daylight.

It needs to go.

I get annoyed with DST. It just feels so pointless to me, we should just decide on one time and stick with it.
