...whether Shigurui is very explicit? I mean, it used to have the 'adult' tag on it (though up recently, it has been changed to 'mature')... na18
What I mean by explicit - Graphic nudity and detailed sex scenes. I don't mind implied sex - just not the ones where you can really, actually, see what's going on. (For example, Soil has sex / rape scenes in it now and then, but it isn't detailed or depicted in a sickening fashion)
I don't care about violence (not including rape), though. There can be any amount of bloodshed and gore - that doesn't bother me at all.
Can someone please clarify this for me?
Yes, there is nudity and some sex scenes at some parts.

But it was mostly because of the gore.

Yes the gore is really extreme, but the sexual parts can't be underestimated I think. It's not just about the explicity, but also about the form and contents of those.
Kogan pretending to mistake his daughter for his mistress for example, plus later commanding her to have sex in front of everyone... heavy stuff. The attempted forced neutering as a punishment on Seigen, too. Not to mention the inter-gendered girl in the later chapters.
About the explicity I'ld even say it's still ok. It's not like it would drag on sex scenes over many pages or a whole chapter. They're more psychic extreme than visually, always regarding the circumstances, and kept short. (More like only showing "This happened" instead of going into details).
In general, this is a dark and cruel and often disgusting story. I know, in the end it only depends on the magazine it's published in, but this to be considered Shounen feels so very weird to me. It easily exceeds the by far biggest part of Seinen in explicity while delivering a huge amount of psychic terror/cruelity and rather deep characters, who can sometimes be hard to comprehend. How could this possibly be aimed at readers under 18?

@Roflkopt3r -
Thank you very much for that clear, detailed explanation. I guess I won't be reading it right now, but I might someday... 🙂
I was surprised that it was shounen too, but then again, there are some shoujo that are more explicit than josei - so I guess it isn't a stretch to think there are shounen manga with more mature content than seinen. As to why, we can only wonder 😐
