Examples: School Days, Nana 6p4x36

So those two are depressing for similar reasons, but any incredibly depressing anime would work. Suggestions?

Quote from LawX

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

Quote from Crenshinibon

And you will murder someone one day, pika. If you're my daughter.

Damn. This is very pertinent to my interests. Now and Then Here and There is depressing as hell and beautiful. Bokurano as well. Are you ok with movies too? Grave of Fireflies is depressing. Pale Cocoon is a little depressing and beautiful. Perfect Blue is soul crushing.

Chrono Crusade (but personally, I think the manga's still better 😛 ).
The Voices of a Distant Star (movie)
Grave of the Fireflies (movie)

ef a tale of memories was pretty depressing for me but in a very good way. So much emotion in this anime. It's a tear jerker 😢

Seen a lot of these, with Bokurano and Grave of the Fireflies probably being the biggest gaps in my knowledge. I really should watch those.

Seconding Bokurano. Seriously. It's just about the most depressing chunk of HOLY COW WHY?! that I have ever laid my eyes upon. It makes you feel like life is absolutely useless if it's really like this.

Seconding Air. Instead of making you feel like life is useless, it just tears your heart out of your chest and stomps it into an unrecognizable pile of mush. If you wait it out, it's totally worth it.

Suggesting:

Wolf's Rain
Terra E
Gungrave
(These are mostly depressing because of their conclusions, but for the most part, they're reasonably depressing series. I'm a lover of depressing series, and these are some of the best.)

Aoi Bungaku (first four episodes; Adaptation of "No Longer Human.")
(Entirely unhappy and depressing adaptation of a novel of the same name about a sociopathic artist who tries desperately to find a place in society.)

Rainbow - I couldn't make it past two or three episodes, afraid of the mental scars.

Code Geass - at many points.

Hell Girl - all the time.

Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu < though it's a live action
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo < or SaiKano as it's anime is called. A little weird near the end, but the manga messed me up for almost a month.

I'm gonna have to say Welcome to the NHK, especially if you can relate to the main character. That anime just left me with real sadness and it basicly ends up with the conclusion that life is pointless.

God how I wish I had a Misaki-chan in my life 😛 .

They made an anime of dean wonderland? The manga was kinda lightweight but definitely fun. Oh and I forgot to mention Narutaru above. Also yukikaze is a little depressing as is Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Oh yeah Red Garden is rather depressing and exciting as fuck.
