but just wondering if there was anyone out there who know stupid manga haterrs.

Yeah, there are a lot of people who are biased against manga... but that's true for American comics, too. I just get annoyed/depressed when others can't understand that manga is just as varied in genre and material as novels. They act like it's just one big sector of books with the exact same plot, but it's not.

Well, I don't really want to call her stupid, but one of my friends from middle school really hated manga. She didn't have a reason to; she just thought they were weird. It was annoying for me, since she looked down on them so much without even reading one.

My opinion on the manga-hating subject: If you're going to hate something, at least research it/try it out first. It gets me so mad when people bad-mouth something they know nothing about.

my cousin was scolded for reading manga.
(i'm asian btw)
but his parents were more like...
"why are you wasting time reading picture books?!
read books...with lots of text?!"

something like that. haha
i know a few manga-posers...
if that counts. @___@"

well over here, they tease you
if you're an otaku. but i guess
that's slightly normal.

this feels like a repeat thread...but oh well....

umm, well, i try to distance myself from people that aren't open to things in the first place, so even if i did know one or two, i disowned them already.

and yes, i realize that makes me against people against things, its an oxymoron.

I have some friends who are book snobs and I mean that in the nicest way possible ( I used to be one myself) who think that if it isn't 300 pages and over of text that it isn't worth reading. If it has pictures it must be for children. Comics, pfft... thats something those high school drop outs read. and so on.

luckily I've reached enlightenment. They can't be too far behind right 😛

I know a f..... lot of them !!!
Only the native french speaking people can really know this situation.... But the main market of french speaking comics " franco-belge"(FB) are people that have hardly opened a couple of manga if ever .... For instance BDGest is the biggest franco belge comics website and a little while ago they created a top 100 readers . Out of 100 comics there are only 9 manga-comics , everything else is FB ! Maus is the 1st comics and it's ranked only 21th !!!! The 1st manga is Taniguchi's Haruka Na Machi He - Quartier Lointain and it's ranked 34th . There are only 2 others manga : Urasawa's Monster and 20th century boy .To understand how biased it is you have also to consider that Taniguchi is a huge fan of FB comics and especially Moebius ,that he belongs to this group called "la nouvelle manga" and created a manga designed for french market (Mahou no Yama) and that Urasawa is very close to Hergé's "ligne claire" .
This is utterly ridiculous . This website remains a reference yet (thanks to its huge database , its software and its large connections with bookshops , editor , publisher and writers) . It doesn't mean there aren't people that love mangas there. It just means that there a freaking bundle of guys that can't stand manga and issue a 100% FB top .

So yeah there are a lot of "manga haters" .

Alo of the people I knew who read american comics hated manga saying that it was a rip off or something. I would bring manga to school to read and they would just make fun of it. I wonder why people don't like to accept manga sometimes?

The Computer Science Division here is crawling with otakus...and alot of street gangsters are watching anime...so none here that I know of...even our teachers are watching anime/reading manga...but maybe that's just in our division since those in Computer Studies are technically being called geeks
