Hiya, I'm wondering if there are any mangas out there that have transgender characters in them who are viewed in a positive and respectful way. I'm specifically looking for ones that aren't transphobic and don't overly sexualise transgender people. 195r4p

I have read allot of manga where people who are gender diverse, or have a diverse sexuality are made fun of and I'm really sick of it, and it would be a breath of fresh air to read a manga where the LGBT+ character isn't a joke.
Thanks 🙂

These have in-story homophobia/transphobia but the author doesn't treat them as a joke.

Claudine...!

Maybe you should try the trangender/s tag, good luck 😛

Provided you don't mind yaoi: J no Subete

Honey & Honey -- This is mostly about lesbians, with some attention devoted to transmen. It's an edumanga/autobiography.

Bokura no Hentai are all good ones, as mentioned by the previous respondent.

Gold Rush 21

And for manga where the trans character is an important personality but their orientation isn't the focus: Liar Game.

I've read Kyou Kara Yonshimai just a few days ago. It has a very well written and realistic transgender character.

Actually a lot of manga drawn by Kizuki Akira have LGBT characters that are realistic and portrayed in a positive light (or at least not the butt of a joke).

no bra

I wouldn't recommend this: there's way too much fanservice involving the trans girl.

IS - Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei

The term used before it was transgender, I think. Or maybe just the term that Japan uses.... Pretty much the same description though.

Intersex and transgender/transsexual aren't the same thing, you know. Intersexuality is a physical phenomenon, transsexuality is a psychological phenomenon; and since the two groups face completely different problems both health-wise and in the eyes of society, I don't see how this recommendation can fit the OP's request.

That being said, the IS series itself is boring and repetitive after the first couple of volumes, and feature pretty typical romances once you get down to it.

Ai no Shintairiku
It takes the transgender part very seriously, in my opinion.
