Why is it that people scanlate in the first place? Because we're impatient? 😛 27622h
Jk, jk, jk...I mean, some don't even make it to the U.S. 😢
Anyway, even though scanlating is technically illegal there's really no stopping it, so I don't see any point in arguing about it 😐

Wow. Nice job ing the industry. They paid for the license and are publishing it in the US. Of course it takes longer, because they have to go to book sellers and SELL it to them so that they can have it in STORES.

Please don't email me anymore go preach your bullshit to someone else.. go do it at manga helpers .. tell them they're breaking copyrights everytime they release naruto.. leave me alone...
Retard...
so at this poit i was like .. wtf what a hypocrite he goes to manga helpers and is giving me this crap... I should have realized i was dealing with an uber retard at the time.probably just stubled into mh and accidentally knocked on my door... /me shrugs
Don't get why it's funny yet.. well it is funny .. watch what happens >_> i moved him to spam but forgot to block.. oh well worked out well for a laugh :

Again, you are utterly brilliant in your arguments. I'll be sure to include this email when I forward this Broccoli and Viz.
Your site has so many Viz titles, it's amazing that you haven't been caught yet.

Your blatant disregard for international copyright is breathtaking indeed. I especially like the way you try to argue that you CAN continue to flaunt the rights of the creators AND the licensors on your legal disclaimer. I'm sure Shueisha and Shogakan and other publishers in Japan will feel better knowing that you are around to protect their interests.
AND I must say your use of "retard." That showed me. Kudos (actual kudos, not the tasty snack).
Thank you for enlightening me.
See i love this world.. such fun... mwahahahahahahahaahah.

BTW the group's site was in the thread( i just removed it) (u never know) . So .. i don't know how he could confuse me with manga helpers. .. see how retarded >_>

I strongly believe that once a manga has been licensed, you should neither scanlate or distribute it. To me it becomes stealing from the author when someone does that. Scanlating groups who or scanlate licensed manga are a detriment and a danger to the community, IMO.
That being said, I can't stand people who tattle tale. 9 times out of ten when someone tattles its out of a sense of self importance than out of a sense of moral obligation. Let Tokyo Pop, Viz, etc. do their own detective work.

To me it doesn't really matter if its scanlated or not, licensed or not. Distributing manga in any form is a definite no no (but not necessarily enough to stop me doing it). Should raws be ok to be distributed because it isn't licensed? what if someone from the manga's original country obtains a raw without paying for it, surely isn't no different to it being licensed and obtained illegally.

Why put a dollar amount on information? Information should be free. Is the Manga-ka starving to death? If so, is it because 100 people on the internets are reading a manga that he wrote, but wouldn't be able to buy anyways because it isn't released in their country? Has anyone here put a publisher out of business? I doubt it. If the manga-ka is starving to death it is because the publisher doesn't want to pay him fairly. We are actually saving the publisher money by reading online, because they don't have to print the book (also saving trees) as well as they don't have to ship it. They are not losing money when I read scans, they just aren't making money -see the difference? I didn't go in and steal an original copy of a manga from their vaults - that would be stealing because then they lose something. I am merely viewing information. Information that I can't keep, because if my hard drive crashes, or my internets fail, I have lost the information.
The only people that don't want a free trade of information are the ones who understand that information is power and don't want you to have any. The less you know, the easier you are to control. Why does a book cost $15 and a gram of weed cost $5? Because drugs make you easy to control, and information makes you hard to control. Anyone who is against the free trade of information is a Nazi - and possibly a pedophile with diseases.
Is the trade of info illegal, yes. Is it immoral, no! In fact it is almost immoral not to.
Life is tough......but it's tougher if you're stupid.

I agree with you to a certain extent. From a moral perspective, I guess there isn't really that much difference. I suppose there's really no stated purpose to the scanlation community. IMO it ought to be to raise awareness of an artist's work so that they can get licensed and people can them by buying their work. However, that's just my opinion, and everyone knows what opinions are like. What worries me about scanlating and hosting licensed stuff is the attention it brings to the community by the corporate gestapo types.

regardless of who is benefiting or hurting from this, putting scanlated/scanned manga up online is illegal, so this was bound to happen sooner or later. it just happened a little earlier than most of us expected.

Now the only problem is that it's hard for the police to find the scanlator's hosts and the scanlators themselves, so it's literally impossible to stop. Why do you think that stuff like child pornography is a big issue?

or maybe I'm just too naive..
Yeah I think you are..
Scanning TP's stuff is the lowest of all thefts, steals money from the mangaka, the publisher and may cause price hikes that affect those of us who BUY our manga. It's shoplifting pure and simple.

i'm sure they already knew someone scanned their stuff without having to be told. i'm sure they probably already check sites such as mangaupdates and it doesnt take a genius to find catchanscans or similiar groups. this mightve been mentioned beforehand but didnt feel like reading whole thread. sorry abuses authority by posting
why back in the day we didn't '', we had to swim to japan if we wanted fresh anime and that was only if...

i no that most of the sites i from deletes the scans they posted the minute it gets published by like viz or like tokyo pop....
but the thing is a lot of them dont get to canada or the us till 2-3 years and even after they do get here they take 4ever to be translated...
and manga genres like yaoi and shonenai arent all that popular to publish here either! theres only like 2 companies that publish it that i no of which is june and blu or something like that.
and a lot of ppl the manga to see if its good or not before the spend $15 on it
and a lot of ppl do buy a lot of manga!!!
and like mellowmut said they are aware that other ppl scan their stuff so i think that person is a weirdo telling them it besides dont their scans if ur just gonna complain buy their books!!
As if handcuffed, I'm bound to the memories of you...

That's why I hate dumb bi*****!!! They get high off of thinking they're saving the world from evil aka scanlators. Wowee, get a life stupid girl. The world is in enough chaos right now to even care about if mangas being ripped off or not. I advise anyone who would follow in her league to think about things that real matters more than tattling on scanlating groups. Like poverty or child abuse. >:-(

hm
I'm a hypocrite aswell
I read most of the scans but I don't like the amount of mangas being scanned, it's just too much
i don't have the money to buy every manga I've read so far, and neither do i have the knowledge to read japanese (since almost all of them aren't licensed yet)
but if i encounter a manga I really really like (dna/claymore/one piece and alot more) I buy it, as long as it has a justified price, (12$ for eden ain't justified) imho
I do this to show for this kind of manga I'm reading so that this genre might flourish some more, even if the single buyer doesn't achieve anything, if some other people think similar it surly is nutrient for the manga industry, which will the mangakas, and benefit even those in the end who can't affort even a single manga (though that is somehow unrealistic for those reading this, I mean you've got enough money to have internet...)
I don't think scanning is right, but the publishers like TP don't extend their hand towards their customers either, like giving half of the first vol of each manga as an online teaser, which would beware fans of stupidly buying their crap releases (ikkitousen for example where the text is totally of the original text done by the mangaka).
edite: the last time I was on tokyopop it wasn't , but cause of a friendly pm i checked again and they seem to have improved^^
i don't think it's right to rat someone out for this, she should at least have tried a conversation with the people responsible for scans and exchanged her point of view with others, maybe then she would have acted differently, but who knows, she acted like and idiot and very well might be one

hm I think so aswell, but then again, if they do, why for fu** sake is narutofan still up and running?!
hm this whole thing reminds me of something else I don't really like... someone is updating mana information on this site with descriptions from tp, and somehow seeing that feels incredible wrong, at least he/she should take their time to rewrite them...
oh i forgot to add: crap releases like ikkitiouson from tp are a more of a threat for tps main customers than a few scanlations of licensed manga(which are the best ment btw
It does kinda suck. I hope my group doesn't get reported for releasing lovely complex.
But, its not like we can do anything. Just do what you can. I added akick on my IRC channel, thanks to one of the lurk ops help.
We are kinda stealing someone else's property (or something), but, we still do it. And even at that I don't think I would stop sadly. I guess its just what we deserve.
