why have 3 scanlation groups suddenly shut down? is there something wrong?! D: 3i3n2l

I am so sad to see them go. DokiDoki had genres of yaoi that other groups often ignored. DokiDoki scanlated all of my favorite shota and animal ear yaoi. I hope other groups continue theirs and ForeverMore's projects and I pray that my other favorite yaoi groups can keep on going strong.

I don't mean to be offensive but do you even bother reading the inserts in the releases or visiting the groups' websites? Almost all of them are constantly looking for staff. If even this kind of advertising fails or is simply ignored, I'm speechless...
And just because new scanlation groups are popping up everywhere doesn't mean that already existing groups automatically get new staff. Those ppl who found new groups are potential staff for older established groups but they don't want to for whatever reason.
It's frustrating if ppl are so unwilling and lazy and unmotivated. The groups will simply disband if no one wants to help. Leechers will have to see to it themselves how they'll get their share of (their favourite) manga 'cause I don't see any reason to work my ass off alone.

I have to agree with Icassop. It's frustrating to beg and beg for help, and get very little. And funny thing about all the 'new scanlations groups popping up' - almost every one of them release their first chapter with the notice that they are looking for staff to fill all positions. It seems kinda silly to start a group when you don't actually have the staff to begin with.

But, I do have to wonder what's happened to all the translators and editors that used to be around to help out. It seems like no one wants to spend the time helping anymore, they just want to reap the benefits of the little bit that is being released by various groups.

Sorry if I have make you frustrated. I hardly manga/anime and visting groups' sites. I usually purchase manga/anime from my supplier and always check Baka-Updates for any new release volumes or titles that I can order.

To your 2nd part: I think the former translators and editors just grew older, lost interest and/or simply don't have time anymore because f.ex. finished their studies and started working. And new staff nowadays lack motivation and endurance.

Ah, I see. That's commendable ^^ Even though I'm a scanlator, I also prefer buying/reading the actual books.

I agree with you; some of the work that DokiDoki scanlated had content that was often very rare to come by; thus their uniqueness in the Yaoi community. 'Tis sad that they are closing, but nonetheless unsurprising. Goodbye, DokiDoki, you were my first yaoi scanlation group to read from (ah, nostalgia).

On one hand, I dislike how many small groups are popping up as well. These people could very well an existing group and be better for it since a lot of the new groups severly lack training and their projects are not very well done.

On the other hand, I can understand wanting to do "their own thing" because I've run into many instances where a scanslation group I worked for did not want to take on a project I was interested in, forcing me to look elsewhere to get it released.
