Not just about manga, but when it comes to anything truly personal about me, the only people who know - and imo the only ones who ever need to know - are A few close family and/or friends.

I don't try to hide nor mention it at the first opportunity, so it just comes up eventually if I've known the person for a while, but not to everyone I know.

Anyone who knows me. Just with anyone replaced with most and manga replaced with comics in general.

I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

Like, I don't go shouting it around at work to people who don't give a shit about me, but if there's ever one of those self-introduction circles that includes anything like "a hobby", I'm going to say "I'm obsessed with video games and manga." It's literally at the core of my identity. All of my immediate coworkers know by now. I even read manga at work 😛

If you can choose when you die, does that count as suicide? It does, in my opinion.

As for the new poll, it reminds me of a discussion I had in the forum section some months ago. I tend not to bring up manga when I'm talking about my interests because I'm afraid they will find it "stupid". I don't know about you, but in my country comics aren't considered "high literature", even though there ARE some masterpieces in the comic sphere -- be it Asian, American or European comics. Last week I attended a class of history in which the professor pointed out the importance of media during McCarthyism and the Cold War, mentioning comics such as Captain America. That being said, sometimes I feel I should be more open about my ions.

Well I wouldn't tell it to a random person. But most of my family and friends would know. But definitely not Anyone, because I don't really mention it unless there is a talk about interests... My mom reprimands me for that, she says I spend too much time reading manga and not enough time searching for a girlfriend...

Most of my family and friends, some of my co-workers do as well I suppose. I don't tell people about it but if it comes up I'll say. My co-workers found out when I told them I was going to Japan for example. It's not something I hide but it's not something I shout about either. Like any of my other hobbies I guess. I'll tell you what I enjoy doing in my spare time if you care to ask.
Perhaps some people can infer if they pay attention to accessories/keyrings or clothing I wear that has logos and stuff, but it's the kind of things that unless you know what they are, you wont know at all.

Funny. Just finished reading Eve and Eve, and...

...the story ends with both the "immortals" killing each other. And, the "age" they die at is around the same age normal people die.

I'm a fan of subdued elements, stuff where it's not really discernable what it is unless you're up close and being carefully scrutinized.

I voted "close family and friends" since it's not something I go out telling everybody...but then I realized I do have some blatant ments LOL. My laptop has a My Neighbor Totoro themed skin that I made, my car has Ghibli decals all over it and plushies inside, my bag is Totoro themed and a couple other things I have too. I even have a Totoro dress that I've worn to work before. So everyone and their mom knows I'm into Ghibli, and if they get into a convo with me about it, they eventually find out that I'm super into manga.

My classmates also know about my love for manga since we talk about literature and all it's different forms all the time.

I'm not American. I'm not sure how many people would recognize that word outside of America, but I think it is usually mentioned during history classes in high school -- or at university, as in my case.

Thank you for your advice. You are totally right, I should get over myself. I'm often too much: always over-thinking, unnecessarily worried and definitely too hung up about everything. But I'll try to be less self-conscious from now on 😉

Wow, it's pretty interesting to learn that America's almost entirely fabricated, strictly internal battle with "communism" is something that the rest of the world studies about. Joseph McCarthy never even understood foreign policy, much less drafted meaningful bills on the subject, so he really didn't have much global impact, as far as I'm aware.

Presumably McCarthyism is thus used to give more context to the Cold War, which seems like a far more reasonable subject of study for a world history class?

How was any of it fabricated? KGB agents, Communist pamphlets and organizations, civil rights groups, labor unions all explicitly said that their goal is to subvert, demoralize, destabilize, and destroy America (Whether through violent or proletarian means); with time going on to prove that McCarthy was right about everything. Today, it's even more undeniable that Communism had a damaging influence on American culture from Marx being the most assigned "economist" in universities and institutions to television calling for violence as a solution to political discussion.
