Kinda sad that it's over and I didn't start it sooner. I have no idea why I put this off for so long. XDIt was a consistently great manga all the way to the end. Hats off to Arakawa sensei! 2l5b5y

It was a very good ending.
Wasn't tacked on or lopped off.
Glad that it's not going to be forcibly continued.

Everyone seems to be completely satisfied with the FMA ending, but I'm not...

I hated the whole

sacrifice the door for life deal. It seems extremely inequivalent to me. Because the equation is basically (minus ed's door) + (al's door) + (al's soul) + (al's body). I'm not sure how that balances at all. Sure he got a bit of bonus for "beating the truth"... but if that were to be true, we'd basically be able to go around destroying random ppl's doors to resurrect other people's lives. Afterall, majority of the population doesn't know how to use alchemy anyways. Who cares if we go around sacrificing their doors?

And do animals have doors too? o.O

OMG I can't believe it's over ;_;

@Grumpy

I think Hohenheim probably offered his life too... Hohenheim doesn't die immediately, he dies smiling in front of Trisha's grave

EDIT: Although Ed refuses to use his dad's life.. wait, okay you have a valid point XD

I was a bit confused as to why Selim Bradley, or at least his lookalike was there. I didn't get it.

But overall, I liked the ending 🙂 as far as endings go, it was superb. I'll miss that series... time to get out the chocolate ice cream and mope about the fact that it's over ;_;

Fitting ending, but it felt sort of rushed.
Probably because of the need to keep up with the anime.

I've always felt that FMA could've used more arcs.
The story felt a bit short overall... I personally would've liked to see Ed and Al travel around a bit more in their search for the philosopher's stone (side stories or part two of the manga would be nice).

Wasn't Al always saying that he was taller than Ed? They look about the same when Ed got Al back... Two years later they also look the same, and it's very clear in the picture of Ed's kids...
Oh well, at least Edward is probably happy about that...

All of you can all stop with the spoiler tags.. I mean the thread is about the ending... If anyone comes here not expecting to get spoiled then that is their fault..
While I guess anyone with a soul has a door(which means dogs may have it too), I think it's more about the "weight" of the door.. How spiffy-looking it is compared to the others. Just as one life does not equal another(though apparently a soul equates to an arm.. but we'll table that for now 🙂 ) a door should not either. So what if his was god-like with awesome trimming?

You can't sacrifice each other's doors... Only you have access to YOUR OWN DOOR.

I'm curious. If Alphonse still had his door doesn't that mean he could still alchemy? seeing that ed n al left through al's gate

Ed sacrificed his OWN door in order to get Al's body back. Because Ed sacrificed his arm in order to transmute Al's soul to the suit of armor, when Al sacrificed that in order to give Ed his arm back the soul simply returned to the body. Since his body was originally taken because of the Human Transmutation it remained at the door.

So basically Ed sacrificed his Alchemy in order to get the body back that was originally taken at the start of it all. The soul was already returned and paid for [so to speak]. He only had to pay for the body to return.

You can't go and sacrifice your door in order to bring someone back from the dead. Ed was only able to sacrifice his door in order to bring back the body that was originally taken as part of the exchange for Human Transmutation. Think of it this way:

Al's body and Ed's leg taken for HT [not a good trade in my book] > Ed's Arm taken for Soul Transmutation to Armor > Ed's Arm returned by using soul to reverse Transmutation > Ed's "Door" sacrificed to reverse the HT.

Just about anyone can do HT transmutation if they want to sacrifice their "door", and their ability to ever do alchemy again, in order to get what they lost back.

I think it's a rather fitting end.

From the beginning it is stated that the dead cant be brought back. Al never died. Al's body was taken but not his life. If anything Al was teleported to where that being that is god, the earth, you, me, everything is. So Ed payed the price of his door to bring back his brother who never died.

though it is odd for a body to survive without nutrition for so long. Even though Al's body was just skin and bones i wonder how it survived for so long 😕

Been with it from the beginning. Good ending. Perhaps an inch too happy though.
Looking forward to her next work. 😀 😎

It is stated that the reason that Ed eats as much as he does and sleeps as much as he does is because his and Al's soul became just a little fused (?) when they tried to bring back their mom...this is also the reason why Ed is so short (or so does he claim 😛 ) since he averages between his 'normal' height and the height his brother's body has

I love it. With it being officially over, it feels like a whole phase of my life has ended. 🤣 Having these characters in your mind for so many years, and now their journeys are complete...
