Hello everyone, once again! =)I am back, seeking your ever helpfull guidence. 2p4p2m
This time around I'm looking for a manga that will pull at your heartstrings.
I would like it to be either or include some of the following:
- Parental Abandonment
Or - Where you can see very clear favouritism with another sibling. e.g. "Where an older sibling is just so brillent, no matter what you do, you wouldn't be able to catch up." Or "your partents never praise you, or pay as much attention to you." Something with those kind of feelings.
- Even if its something like "feeling like a stranger in your own home."
- Theres gota be some romance, even if its subtle, or slow-paced.
- If the main character, male or female, can be strong willed, that would be great.
- Nice artwork is always a bonus.
- The problems at home dont have to be the centre of the manga either, as long as its there in the background.
- It is preferable if it has at least 20 chapters out, or completed. (Unless its new?)
I read Taiyou no Ie, and loved how she kept trying to deal with it, never really wanting to lean on anyone, or complain too much.
Another obvious one would probably be Fruits Basket. I like the whole light atmosphere, with the dark undertones.
As always, No oneshots, yuri, yoai or ecchi.
So if anyone can recomend anything like that, I know i'm being a bit picky.. But you would be a great help, Thanking You!! =)

Girls of The Wild's? After his father dies, the protagonist and his two siblings get abandoned by their own mother. Life sure ain't easy for him, but he is strong willed (at least that's how he looked at the beginning of the series). Then the harem pops up, but there isn't any ecchi, so it's not all that bad. In fact it's a pretty good manga.

Orange Marmalade Main character was abandoned by his mother and throwed away in an orphanage....she later asks him to forgive her but not to avail. Its an interesting romance manga.
P.S.-There are many forum threads where similar manga reccomandations were made. Try it.....

Knite is a very good OEL series. The MC prefers to be alone because
his mother died and he has a horrible crazy stepmother while he can't get along with his father.
Also in Crepuscule (Yamchi) the guy is bullied by the kids because he's different (he has red eyes). Rejected by his own parents too, with the help of a new friend he gets into another world; however, there are still many doubts about his origins.

Route 225 by Shimura Takako (Hourou Musuko, Aoi Hana) is not necessarily the best manga, but its a decent read and short. Since it is Shimura Takako, theres also some gender identity themes in play. Its about a young girl and boy who one day end up finding themselves stuck in a world very similar to their own, but without their parents in it.

I'm sure you've read at least a few of these but:
Parental abandonment
Crossroad
Kamisama Hajimemashita
Skip Beat
seconding Orange Marmalade
For favouritism/overshadowed by siblings
Seiyuu Ka-!
Papillon - Hana to Chou
Oyayubi kara Romance
These are not complete and not 20+ released chapters, but mostly fit otherwise.
...Seishunchuu! Ignore the summary, the story is way beyond that

Let's see, spontanously a possbile match could be ... ^^
The female main character ends up all alone, because her father gets charged for embezzling funds and her mother is gone, so that she has no one to trust around her.
Especially in the beginning the main character's sister gets most of the parental attention, while the main character's "smaller successes" are nearly getting ignored, which is for a kid quite painful. Also, one of the male counterparts sometimes suffers because of the pressure his ambitious mother puts on him.
Well, the parents of the main character won actually a lottery. Because of this, they make the decision to pursue their lifelong dreams and leave her by some friends, but those family also has their own problems, even if they try to maintain a "happy" front.
One of the characters is left by his father, which was a quite talented musician, but couldn't adjust to be a good parent - or just make a living without music? It's been a while since I was reading this one, but the situation was also rather serious and in my eyes quite well executed.
And, last but not least ... * Coelacanth
A really tragic situation of abuse is part of the storyline.
"It's like love is a bonus in your life. Even without it, I'm just fine. I don't feel like pointlessly searching for it. You don't have to make yourself unhappy." (Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji)
"Why does it rain?" - "To create drama." (Drops (Andou Yuki))

Mekakushi no kuni: one of the main characters deals with this, especially during his arc of the story.
Watashitachi no shiawase na jikan: EXCELLENT manga where the main female character deals with a mother who is cruelly unsympathetic to the horror she experienced.
alternatively, there is a parental abandonment tag that you could search.

Love in the mask
Harem Lodge
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
Alpine Rose
Saijou no Meii has a sibling rivalry though I don't know whether it can be called over shadowing
V.B. Rose definately this one 😀
Tower of God
Diamond Dust (KANG Hyung-Gyu) this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but it kind of fits the tone you're asking for I think
Shounen Dolls
Ayahatori Shoukanchou
Bound Beauty
Meiji Hiiro Kitan
P.A. I can't ...I think maybe her father doesn't know of her existence?
Mars
There is a tag for parental abandonment. Here is the search result with the "parental abandonment" tag and yaoi/yuri/shotacon/lolicon/hentai/etc. excluded from the results 🙂
