Well I think I'm a bit elitist when I think about it. It won't stop form reading a manga, but I'll look down on it more. m4e3q
A great example (not manga but works the best) is Twilight. It's not a bad book, I read it, but the fact that people claim it as one of the best books of all time has made me dislike it. It's way over hyped. Same with Naruto and Bleach.

I see you knew I got my avatar from 4chan. But I thought it was for M.U.G.E.N. at first...
Oh, well I just seeing the guy who's working on it posting a thread about his progress. You browse /co/ much?
Not as much as I should...

No, I'm not a manga elitist, at least not in the sense of the word that this poll deals with.
I do have high standards, though, and I think some of my friends think that I am one.

**I'm a bit of a "manga snob"... 🤣
I think some certain popular manga are not worth for me to read... 🤢
But I never rip on ppl who read popular series - simply because I have a lot of friends who are Narutards, Reborntards, OneTards 😁
And there are a lot of positive examples too that prove popularity has nothing to do with low quality ( like FMA and Death Note ) 😃 **

I may consider myself an elitist since I got immersed in manga during the time great manga at their peak ruled the latest releases. I like manga that keeps you to speculate, think, be emotionally invested and to keep you on edge while waiting for the next chapter. Nowadays, I am forced to read casuals and less just to satisfy my craving (I need to be able to read manga). Rare gems are like treasure hunts now. Either digging for old classic ones or waiting for the a very good ongoing, sometimes dropped manga,or just reread those few masterpieces again.
Back then, I how my blood boils when I encounter fresh, interesting, extremely moving manga. The ones with authors who knows where they are heading. Not just because of friendship but the sacrifice and the hardwork you see from these characters. the details and solid plot, the magnificent setting that liven your imagination and makes you feel/think what it's like if you were the one in that situation. Some of them are finished so we're left with those ongoing and new copycats with full of moe and ecchi with nothing to do with the plot.
Yep, there are even manga which started great but fell into the great ravine called mainstream. Everyone gets excited and hype, then the manga gradually lose its initial shine and turns to shit. SALVATION for the poor souls. Where are thou?! Same with movies and anime these couple of years too . 🤢

I'm pretty sure there isn't much of a policy regarding necroposting here, but the last reply to this thread was nearly 10 years ago... Impressive.
I would consider myself to be somewhat picky, but the only thing that determines your enjoyment of a series is yourself. Not that popular or critical consensus on things don't matter, but at the end of the day, you should just do what you enjoy.

A hard no to being a manga elitist, just look at my extensive reading list, but I am one for anime. To an extent that is. Bad animation is fine with me but the scripts need to be on the same level as that of a good manga or book and they usually aren´t when it comes to original shows due to the broader target audience. Way more people watch tv/anime than they read manga/books after all and the output is much more male/youth focused than with manga. That´s why female-targeted work almost exclusively get one-off tv dramas/specials or films when it comes to manga adaptations and adult-targeted anime had a bit of a hard time in the first half of this decade too. Things are now becoming more inclusive due to streaming, so we´ll see. Dorohedoro somehow got an anime, so there is hope for anime elitists as me and Blade Runner is being continued in anime for. That´s CRAZY.
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.
