The day I hate shoujo is the day I stop reading manga. Not that I love shoujo or anything, I just have a hard time getting into seinen, shounen, etc.

I'll basically repeat what I said in the "do you hate shounen" thread. Hating demographics is silly, as they don't have any sort of inherent content. There are both good and bad shoujo manga in a variety of actual genres. It just depends on the writing, how often cliches are recycled, etc. etc. It's not like seinen and josei don't have their own distinct sets of cliches.

All that said, I probably read shoujo the least of the main four demographics, although I would prefer a cheesy shoujo romance to a cheesy shounen action about 95% of the time.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

Quote from kaeleer

I use to, until I realized not all shoujo's follow the same annoying pattern (That and I usually HATE love triangles xP) . It just takes some digging to find something really good and enjoyable. That and I learned that if it has a huge cult following, chances are, I wont like it. 🤣

me too i cant stand love triangles and i used to love shoujo but not anymore. I dont know just dont like it anymore...

I dont hate shoujo or I dont Love it. I find it in the middle. Shoujo mangas has a really predictable story lines. and Sometime they are soo stupid. The most stupid Shoujo manga was this story how a girl dump her boyfriend cuz she found out that he was cheating on her with 4 other girls then at the end of the series
GUESS WHAT HAPPEN
She gose back to him And Do you know what happens.
He cheated again with more girls...... -_- I dont the series name.

The shoujo population will go up if there was MORE Reverse Harem. For the ladies lol

I hate Reverse Harem genres.. A LOT. The girl usually is so damn oblivious that every guy likes her. And I don't have a clue why they all like her. Fushigi Yuugi and Hot Gimmick are very good example of this.. No offense to La Corda D Oro fans..but yea. Face it.

(i'm actually surprised that I have loads of Shoujo orientated mangas on my public reading list..)

I can't say I hate, but I don't like it. I've never really given it a chance though. Usually the art immediately puts me off and I just... bleh. I've been meaning to force feed myself a bit of it someday just to see what's what, but I've not yet worked up the stomache for it. Maybe I'll try Josei, that may go down smoother.

I don't like it I don't hate. I just stay away from it. I only read I few shoujo titles and I think I got that genre filtered along with hentai 😮

There's alot I don't like but only the really generic ones I hate. Believe it or not there are actually good shojos out there like Basara and Tokyo Crazy Paradise.

No, I don't hate shojo, I hate myself for reading it (the bad ones anyway, there are a few gems out there).

I started out reading Shojo first so no, I don't hate but I do like it to some extent. The main characters fall in love too quickly and mostly can't do anything but whine and cry. The plotlines can be guessed pretty easily most of the time too so it gets boring. I don't know how girls can stand the cutesy girly heroines. 🤢 There are a few Shoujos worth reading not all are bad. I think it's harder for me to find a good one is because I read too much yaoi and now Shonen-Jump.

I don't hate shoujo, but I don't read every shoujo manga that comes my way. Sometimes I just read from a certain mangaka whose work I had liked, and sometimes I rely on recommendations of my friends.

What I don't like, though, are the typical flowery, lace-y shoujo with lead characters that are gentle, etc etc and I hate those who cry all the time and don't do anything else. I like my lead seme. Or at least, tough not only in spirit. Also, I hate plot stuff that involves exes. Come on, that's been done like, a gazillion times.

Nowadays, though, I mostly read josei stuff...

I find the shoujo stereotypes to be far more unbearable than shounen stereotypes, so yes in a sense I do hate shoujo.

As with all genre's there are of course exceptions and I do enjoy a few shoujo mangas. I enjoy them either because they lack the typical flaws or because they have excellent qualities that allow me to ignore them.
