Based on what Kaname said in ch 39, I think it is Zero. Kaname himself told Zero "For 4 years I have raised a horse strong enough to eat the king, and YOU (Zero) are the HORSE". As mentioned, in chess the horse piece is the knight, so if Zero is the horse then he is the knight. And there is no coincidence that Zero tamed white lily, the white horse. It would be interesting if Yuuki end up with Zero. It would be like the story of King Arthur and Queen Guenevieve. I think in that story the Queen ran off with the knight? I am so looking forward for it =)

zero because kaname is more like the king than a knight. plus zero gets more face time then kaname. 😃

Personally, I think the knight that "Vampire Knight" refers to is Zero.

In the latest few chapters I feel like that was made very clear, especially when Zero was held captive in that jail cell and Kaname visted Zero and specifically said that Zero would set him (Kaname) free from the curse that Rido has over him.

Kaname even broke it down: that Zero was now the strongest vampire hunter having taken the hunter fragments (his twin) back into his body, and having drank the blood of Yuuki who has already started to awaken as a pureblood, and for having drank the blood of the pureblood Kaname who drank the blood of the pureblood Shizuka (who turned Zero into a vampire in the first place).

Bottom line is, Kaname needs Zero to free him from his curse and Zero has now begun his transformation (as evident in chapter 41 where he fused with his Bloody Rose gun). that vampires are weak to vampire hunting weapons... that was how Rido managed to kill Haruka (Yuuki's father)... so now that Zero is an awakened vampire that has ingested much pureblood blood, AND has fused with a vampire hunting weapon, he is now the most powerful hunter - a Vampire Knight.

What is a Knight? I believe it's someone who is honorable, rescues, and protects - and now that Zero is in charge of disposing of Rido, by default he is saving Kaname (from his curse) and saving Yuuki (from Rido who wants to eat her pureblood flesh or possess her as a lover) and saving the campus and students (from Rido and his army).

That is why I believe that Zero is the Knight.

my theory on this would be zero, he protects her but he is not in love with the yuki, but that is just my theory by watching the first 13 series. totally addicting, the anime is well drawn and great series and the characters are good looking too, even though they are just anime, who says anime can't be good looking or else it is not worth watching if the characters are ugly.
i'll said if i were the girl, it would be heard to choose, Zero is gorgeous and so is Kaname Kuran. 😉

I agree with the chess pieces theory. But i was wondering that if Yuuki were really the Queen, wouldn't she be the strongest?
After all, the Queen has the widest range of movement in chess.

Kaname: King. The most important piece on a chess board. Without the king, there is no game.

Yuuki: The pawn. Pawns may seem useless, but they have the unique ability to turn into queens. In light of chapter 36, this makes a LOT of sense.

Zero: The only piece left. The knight. I don't think that the part in volume two with White Lily was just randomness on the author's part, since the piece on the chess board was a white knight.

I have never agree so much with someone. ZERO IS THE KNIGHT. The point here is that the Queen is not make to end up with the Knight she is make for the King. The Knight is only the protector. The mangaka in my opinion is following the chess game. I have already saw the anime but I will not give much hints... sorry guys you will have to see ... misterious face

actually, in the anime, Kaname tells Zero that he is the knight that he crafted in order to protect Yuuki. So poor Zero is the knight. :cry:

I also question that when i start reading the series. I guess Zero is the knight.... (Although I'm into kaname-sama).
The hint: Kaname said that Zero will become his Horse (Chess piece) aka Knight-- to defeat Rido. The scene when Zero being kept in the dungeon. Kaname said he will become the strongest vampire hunter
and yet he will never betray Yuuki...

Zero, probably. No way would it be Kaname, he's too much of a manipulative bastard to care about anyone else but himself and his plans [and Yuki, who seems to be apart of his plan.]

But I wouldn't be surprised if it somehow ends up being Yuki considering that she's the main character, AND a Mary-Sue [she may, at times be a bearable one, but she still is one nonetheless.] And she IS a vampire as it is.

This may be my way of thinking, but there still is another pureblood left -> Sara. And she is apparently the fiancee to Kaname anyways [I believe so, it's been awhile since I read the mid-way chapters.] Besides, Yuki and Zero have a certain chemistry together, Kaname and Yuki do not. At all, in my opinion. Besides, did you guys see page 31 of chapter 54? She was holding her left hand near her heart, and she touched Zero with her left heart. It's pretty obvious that she loves him/regrets leaving him behind.

i still say zero is the knight of the manga why first he proetced yuuki , then he is his race protect her , plus he has a white hourse and even is in love with his princess(which knights happened too be.

yuuki could be but hino mever gave her female main characters the title so yuuki is out of the qustion so far.

kaname might be too but kaname is more of a king then knight.

plus hino still draws shields on zero's cloths and swords so it might be he is the vampire knight , thought he is agaist the main character right now he is still protecting someone so he is more suited for the knight. plus when i get the title and read it only one thing comes in my mind that
