Since lambs jacked this thread for the poll, I'm surprised at the poll results this week. I would have thought that more people who get into manga would either have come from a comics source or would have decided to branch out an essentially comics experience by reading stuff besides manga/manwha.

I read Filipino comics - Kikomachine Komix, to be exact, although it's more of gag strips revolving around a certain theme (university life) rather than a plot-driven one.

I used to read Pupung (Filipino), Archie, and Garfield when I was younger.

I haven't read any american comics yet, and they're availability here is pretty scarce. Anyway, I've ed some of the stuff mentioned here, Preacher and Sin City. I also got some spawn comics.

I wanna give american comics a chance and start reading, any suggestions? I wanna read some real american comic classics, which would really be a good read. And I also wanna read some of the major superhero comics like Spiderman, Captain America, X men, Batman, Superman, etc. I love these characters, but i don't really know that much about them since i only see them in movie adaptations. All of them are big reads though, so i want some suggestions on which one of them i should start with.

I do. I read 1602 (it's awesome), Civil War, All Star Batman and Robin, Batman Year One, Elektra, Spiderman. Oh, and Heroes graphic novels, Calvin and Hobbes and Archie. Does Tin Tin count?

The Maxx is a great comic to add to the list Spawn is awesome I think you should try reading the Walking Dead or Marvel Zombies those are great.

I've always felt that Spawn is a bit overrated.... I've got issues 1-50+.... and I feel it started to go down after the 30th issue or so.... it sorta lost direction a bit....McFarlane started to "multi-task" too much with other projects.... The first 20 issues were spectacular.... and you can't disagree that Spawn is what put Image comics on the map back then.... but still.

Just my 2 cents.

Still, more than half of you haven't ventured outside of manga...

I it to lean a bit more to manga than comics but I do tend to read some every now and then, I read a bit of Neil Gaiman's Sandman and Heros but mainly the only comic book I've read is McFarlane's Spawn(I it it not the best comic out there, but it is the one I the most love it since it is the first comic book I ever read and still read 'till today). And try new comics now and then, not much these days thou.

I read waaaaay more manga than I do American/European comics. My american comic reading consists of Calvin and Hobbes. 😀

I read Vertigo titles and other indie/creator-owned series that catch my interest. "Tank Girl", "Transmetropolitan", "Hellboy" and "Strangers in Paradise" are my favorites. So I've been trying to read some american comics and i started with spawn. I think that it's good and the first chapters really got me hooked, however i kinda noticed that different people sometimes write the story, and they ain't really that good.
