I do agree that it didn't wrap up the Arima thing... I mean, c'mon, they had a rivalry going!

But... ever in life... does it really end? What's going to happen when Yamato beats him? Whoo, it's over? Nah, Arima will try to catch up again... and all that. And it goes over and over and over.

I dunno, now that I think about it, I kinda like the ending more. Nothing in life is absolute. There's always a beginning, never an end. I think that's what the mangaka was trying to tell us... and it would've been futile for him to be like,

BUWAHAHAHA YAMATO CONQUERS THE WORLD, THE END

😐 right? This is probably as realistic as any manga could ever get to real life. Sure, life was a bitch for him (esp Suzuka's mood swings), but he persevered... and now he's happy. The rivalry didn't matter too much... he became the best he could be. He wasn't necessarily some huge hero -- he just did good in life. Now he's got the goal of protecting Fuka in addition to loving Suzuka. Isn't that nice? I would enjoy that life.

i have say i liked the ending even if it isnt what i was hoping for. In my mind i kept thinking thier was going to be like a 5-10 time skip and it ended up with yamato beating arima in the Olympics and getting a gold medal.

Come on guys, was this manga EVER about track ?!? Look back, the entire manga was based around his fixation on Suzuka not track, he even said so. so it makes perfect sense for the manga to end when they got married. yes, they could've continued with the rivalry with Arima but then why even call it Suzuka even more? Then there is that, the title says it all, SUZUKA. This was about the ups and downs of a relationship if you were reading it for the track action, sorry to break it to you, but you were reading for the wrong reason. Yes, the ending was left wide open, and I'm sure there will probably be a fan spin off or two but for me this pretty much wraps up the important elements of the story.

I agree with Spanky151: the series was about Yamato's pursuit of Suzuka, not about track.

To me, the athletics was primarily important for it's affect on the two main characters and their relationship.

For Yamato, track was where he finally buckled down and stuck to something (probably for the first time in his life), rather than just drifting along aimlessly with no real goals and not putting much effort into anything.

For Suzuka, I think the track was a means of showing her changing her priorities and finally coming to realize what was genuinely important to her.

At the beginning of the series, because of pressure from teachers, friends, and even her own family, she was obsessed with trying to meet everybody's expectations by jumping higher, setting new records, etc., and she sometimes looked down on Yamato for not being just as driven to succeed at track as she was.

By the end of the series, she seems to have finally relealized that Yamato and their relationship were a lot more important to her than jumping a few centimeters higher or being a better jumper than somebody else (all of which had really been other people's goals, not her own).

As far as the series seeming to end abruptly, I wonder how much of the timing was the magaka' s idea and how much was decided by the publisher of the magazine Suzuka was being serialized in.

The story started out as a generic light high school romance, with stock gags, misunderstandings, fan service, etc., but after a while it turned into a much deeper and more serious story.

I liked the new direction of the story, but from posts here it's obvious some people didn't like the changed tone.

So I wonder if maybe the magazine publishers decided the changed direction of the story didn't really suit their audience, and they asked the mangaka to finish it up so they could replace it with something else.

We all now its about Suzuka... I even knew that they would end up together ages ago, I also predicted that Yamato would break up with Honoka... Yamato's the protagonist and the title of the manga is Suzuka so that clearly states where the story was going... But if the dispute of Yamato and Arima somehow went on, it would also mean that the manga could've gone on for quite some time... I even thought that Arima had a thing for Suzuka a few volumes before... In anyway, track was also slightly important because it was the medium for them to get closer so maybe some of us were interested in an outcome too...

But as I said earlier...

Well the end of Suzuka. What can I say? It was definetely a memorable piece of work from start to finish. It showed that love can blossom anywhere even in the most strangest of circumstances and the power of love can make 2 completely different individuals come together, despite their many trials and tribulations. It also showed that in life even the most common road is not always necessary to reach ones destination. Even the best laid plans may not always follow through due to change but whose to say that changes aren't always for the better? From my point of view the ending was great. (Though i do understand most of u beg to differ, its perfectly alright. Everyone has the right o their opinions.). Afterall the main theme of the series was the pursuit of love, while the field track was the catalyst for those events. In the end i think the manga did achieve its primary objective. "A clean and happy ending".

This manga is definetely is unique from others from its genre in the fact that in other mangas, take for example Love Hina, Maison Ikkoku, or even Ichigo 100% where the male or female protagonist(or both) have feelings toward the other but have diificulty getting their message across, either due to other rivals/suitors, indecicivesness and coincidently unfortunate(often comedic) circumstances and incidents that prevent one or both parties from expressing their feelings. In Suzuka however its not the case as it deals more to the aspects of real life realtionships, is that no matter what realtionship that one is in, its never perfect. Begining from male being in love but not receiving a desired response from the latter because of their different personalities and way of thinking. And even when they finally learn to understand each other and are finally able build a realtionship with each other in the middle of the series, constant arguements, disagreements and misunderstandings cause them to drift apart. It is only near the end, after their time apart that they truly learn to trust each other and their true feelings did their relationship finally reached a turning point to the extent of sacrificing each of their goals and dreams to ensure their continued happiness with one another and their child.

This has overall been a great reading experience. But for those who would want a dfifferent "competetive ending" u can try reading Kouji Seo's previous work, Crossover. In fact both Suzuka and Crossover are in the same "universe" as most of u would have already figured out after reading the 5th volume of Suzuka. For those who have read this post up to the end i thank u for having the patience thus far and i apoplogize to those who found this post a little long winded. 🤣

I can't say I enjoyed it all the way through but I did like the ending. It seems like they had to rush the manga after Suzuka left for America by tossing out Yui and Honoka out of the story but that made it come to a great ending.

There were some parts of the story I wasn't too enthusiastic about, but overall I really enjoyed it. 🙂

To me, the ending was very satisfying and and did an excellent job of wrapping things up: the two of them still had a lot of challenges ahead of them, but I was left with the feeling that they were very much together and ready to tackle the rest of their lives as a couple.

I was surprised, though, at the way the mangaka brought the series to an end so suddenly.

I thought Suzuka's pregnancy was going to be a plot device to add new difficulties and plot twists to keep the story interesting for many more chapters, but instead it turned out to a means to bring the story to an end quickly. 🙁
