Suggestion: new genre(gay erotica) 2l3j8

I'm not sure whether this has been suggested before but i'd like to suggest a new genre: gay erotica. This is because the genres on MangaUpdates are classified, according to their target demographics, right? Well... gay erotica is targetted at gay men while BL(yaoi, shounen-ai) is targetted at heterosexual females, even though there may be gay men who read BL. It seems a bit strange to lump them together. 325m47

I like this idea, too. The genre is referred to as "Bara" in Japanese and it really is completely unrelated to BL. Bara isn't going to appeal to most BL readers; likewise, gay readers might be interested in reading something that is written for them. This would help distinguish the two for the reader's benefit. Its also misleading to put them in the same category. Bara is a pretty small niche at the moment, but it would be cool if we could start catag Bara titles in Mangaupdates as the market expands. Good suggestion! 😃

True! True! I agree! Bara is very much different with BL! Bara is much more realistic in of whole concept of art compared to BL which is very ideal for a woman's eye.

Oh wait... there's already a category called "Bara". Hmmm... btw, I thought that gay erotica wasn't just bara alone? 'Cos bara = bear(huge, muscular and hairy guys) porn... and I think there are other types of gay erotica?

Yeah, "bara" type males are the kind of guys my friend likes to watch at a bear show. You really can't consider bara a gay erotica that might deal with younger males, say late teens to early twenties, that haven't developed that type of mature body. And not all gay men like big muscled hairy men so not all erotic is going to be on that specific type of male or have both characters that fit the type. I've read gay erotic were one is definity a bara type guy and his partner is described as having an atheletic build or in one case, the partner is an artist with "slender hands and shy eyes."
