And actually I wouldn't have a lot of trouble to name a couple of dozen of very mediocre mangas that are beeing scanlated...
So no popularity =/= quality (IMO)
Some unfamous manga are quite nice actually.

I can't buy manga cause = I'm 15 with no allowance, My family is poor, and I live in some hick town just north of the river(Ohio). At the beginning of the month my dad get paid $2062 by the V.A. but that doesn't go far with a family of 8.
sounds tough!, buying manga really wouldn't be a priority. Good thing you can get manga off the Internet! And that way you don't have to worry about your siblings ruining your manga books. Wow, that really is a big family. We are 6, and i already consider that pretty big, exspecially in dying .
I buy a bit now and then, but almost only second hand. Mostly to help my conciense feel better.

I'm a collector, so everything that I'm a big fan of, I collect. In it's original form. Video Games, Anime, and Manga. Although, I most anime cuz they are FAR too expensive, I buy almost all my manga. I have over 450 volumes of manga in English (a few are in Japanese). Some of them are rare/out of print/first printings. But I've only really been able to buy so much cuz I've worked at a bookstore or gotten a bookstore discount for about 2 years now. I've been seriously collecting for nearly 4 years, and I just prefer to have them with me. I can't manga and bring them to work with me to read on my break. Plus, we all know manga make for the best bathroom reads! ^.^ Hehe. While I some series that won't make it here, or that are slow here ::cough::Berserk::cough::, I always buy the English, too.

I rarely buy them considering I dont pick it up a second time to read them. But I do have some, which are of course the ones that I really enjoyed reading.

I rarely buy manga, I stick with scanlations as long as they are available, and only buy if Im interested in a manga not available by DL.
Mainly its because I dont like the translations of the group (the only group) that licences manga here where I live.

Well, i work, so i got the money... but here in Argentina, there's only one publisher (Ivrea) and.... all the mangas they are publishing I've read it before on net, so I just can buy my volumes from Spain (and it is pretty expensive), or it from net ^^U

I only buy manga if I really think I am gonna read it again. I have berserk and blade of the immortal, but that is because I reread them quite a bit. If they had a better and cheaper distro I might buy alot more but as a college student I am a bit strapped.

I've never bought any US releases, but I do buy either jraw or taiwan manga.
Sometimes, I would scan them as well, just to produce a better copy. Books generally look better after scanning (with editting) except some with special paper quality. Shipping and service charge are always the aching parts. Usually, they cost the same or even more than the price of the books.

Quite often. ^^ I've also had a subscription to Shonen Jump USA since 2003. So I have.. -counts-.. 60 volumes of English stuff (some of it is amerimanga, tho'), compared with 21 tankobon (plus one photonovel).

Libraries are a good source for manga for the poor. Most of them are connected to the rest statewide, so trading between libraries is also possible. 😀
The local library doesn't have any. D: I'll have to donate some of mine the next time I decide to trim down my collection.

Yea I have that too from the june or july issue the year it started till now. Which now that I think about it is pretty sad for a 19 year old to have since they have toned it down, and I have caught up with the japanese releases with just about all the series in it.
But let's see, I have all 28 volumes of the English RuroKen, 10 volumes of Beet the Vandel Buster, 13 volumes of Bleach, 4 volumes of Claymore, 1 volume of Samurai Deeper Kyo, 4 volumes of a Gundam Series, Ghost in the Shell, and several others that I don't know how to spell at the moment. Let's just say that I have enough, including all the issues of Shonen Jump USA, to fill several of the Large Rubermaid containers that can fit under a bed.
