Yeah, that's true for me too. English is not my native language, but I always use English subtitle for foreign movie. Even if there's a subtitle in my native language.

Same here.

in general, original language plus english subs. i think only when i watched the fruits basket anime i could only watch the english subs despite not liking them cuz yui horie's voice made me want to claw my ears off. also any english dub with steven blum is godly and usually worth watching.

i have a special place in my heart for spanish dubs, though. when i watched evangelion i watched it with the spanish dubs since the voice acting quality blew the english one away and even outdid the japanese original. i think that specific voice acting company or whatever they are are the same ones who dubbed a popular brazilian drama which was super successful everywhere and critically acclaimed. high production values ftw!

See the trouble with Dubs is even today they are censored. Not in language but what is shown in anime or manga. There should be something like that in the poll answers. Dub without censorship or something?

I don't know what to answer I speak fluently 2 languages which is Russian and English, so I usually watch either english dub or russian dub (whichever is easier to get) but "any dub that i understand" is not a choice there...

The one that comes to mind would be Sailor Moon, I watched its polish version when I was still a kid, and tried to re-watch it later. To the censorship (making one of the male characters into a.. woman as not to show homosexuality) I would add sometimes terrible translation... "Crescent beam" was confused with "bean"... Imagine Sailor Venus screaming "green pea! bean!" and try not to laugh/cry...

"The original language's dub"

😕 ?

Dubbing refers to creating a new voicetrack DIFFERENT from the original; there is no such thing as an "original dub."

That's what was confusing me also.

Sometimes movie scenes are dubbed by the same actors at a later time.

When I watch films in English (which is a foreign language to me, but I speak it rather well) I usually pick the original version without subtitles, unless the characters speak with heavy accent, then I watch it with English subtitles (I watched "Life on Mars" like this, for example). When I watch a film in a language I don't understand very well, I choose subtitles in my native language. Unfortunately, most films in Polish TV have voice-over, which is the worst option...

Of course there is. Actually film makers not so often use sound recorded right at the shooting and actually dub it later...
