I agree with the previous reviewer, "fundefined." This is a series that started off pretty strongly, with an intriguing anti-hero protagonist. However somewhere in the middle, it became too draggy with all those flashbacks and a switch in focus to the comparatively boring backstory of the main character and his quest to defeat his archenemy. I gave up after Volume 11. 562pc

The art is above average, but...

Overall, I'm disappointed by this. The cover art is always nice but like somebody else said, the artist(s) doesn't really know how to convey the action well--that's a huge minus, as fight scenes are integral to a wuxia manga. The story, or perhaps the way that it's told, did not manage to sustain my interest within the first few issues, so I decided not to invest in this series any more.

The protagonist, Musashi, disgusts me. Even after he has been 'reformed', he still wants to do nothing but kill people. He thinks he's found some kind of meaning in this way of life, but it's a delusion (at least IMO it is): at the end of it all, he's just a killing machine. And the fights, if they're the draw of this manga, are not the most exciting anyway. So it gets stale after awhile.

Gratuitous sex and violence. That sounds exciting, but it's not. The senselessness of it all makes it tedious. And the art isn't even consistently good.

How I wish there were scanlations in those days, so I didn't have to judge a shrink-wrapped manga by its cover (as I frequently had to do). Then I never would have bought this crap.

I was looking for a Sengoku manga and the cover of this one seemed good. But it turned out to be very mediocre, in both art and story. Teenagers might like it, but I couldn't even get past chapter 1...
