First off, I didn't like how the mangaka handled the issue of child sexual abuse. She made it seem comedic in the first chapter and in the bonus story (with the same music teacher doing it to another child). However, Tatsuya's reaction to this experience was reasonable in the second and following chapters. 5b4r3r
As for the art, it isn't so great but it does get better as the volumes progress. The...
I loved the way the mangaka drew Emba. The sleek musculature was awesome. However, the plot was lacking. Time ed gradually, bu it didn't make sense that they would fall in love with just those few interactions...
You don't need to know anything about KHR in order to enjoy this DJ. It is set in alternate universe and not much character background is needed. The art was great as expected from Yoneda Kou. The story was good too but it felt a bit jumpy in places.
Overall, I give it an 7.5/10!
This volume had two well-developed stories in it. The art was not typical BL style. It was simple, clean, and conveyed the character's emotion really well. Both stories had a calm and gentle feeling to them. I especially liked the second one which had to do with the world ending in 2012.
This was amazing! The art was fantastic and the background details (of both the art and story) were so on point. The mangaka definitely did her research for this.
Both MCs were so well fleshed out, they felt real to me. The story was unique and beautiful. Just the kind of freshness I needed for my yaoi-weary eyes!
The sex wasn't as explicit as other Okadaya works, but it was romantic and sexy all...
When reading other typical BL manga, I sometimes get the feeling that "something is missing". THIS is what was missing. This little spice of life. You can really feel the ion that the mangaka put into their stories here.
I truly loved this experimental volume. Taking chances in the publishing world is a no go, so I'm very glad that this showcases the "bad" BL that was rejected by publishers.
I...
This manga was great! I've been reading since there was only a oneshot, so I appreciate the two additional volumes.
The emotions and turmoil were depicted really well. However, the event in the last chapter was way too sudden in my opinion.
These past few years, this manga was among the top that I kept up-to-date with.
This is a unique story and many times I didn't know where it was going to be heading but it made a lot of sense in hindsight. All the MCs in the manga are lonely but each in their own separate way. Although some feelings may be exaggerated, I think there are elements of vulnerability to these MCs that everyone can...
This manga is not great by any means but it was cute and light-hearted. It was a good read to relieve myself from boredom. It also featured something I rarely see in BL: SAFE sex! The main characters actually used a condom (which I think is a turn for the better).
I also saw some comments where the scanlation was release about WHY a condom was needed at all. Things along the line of: "He's not...
Both stories were written very well, well paced and they gave off a feeling of completeness. They both had a common theme of hindered communication.
The title story was refreshing and showcased the result of unexpressed feelings. But these characters do eventually succumb to their emotions and communicate their feelings to each other (albeit many years later).
However, the characters in Stars...
I don't think this is typical bara; I would consider it a hybrid of BL and bara. I think it would be more appropriate to call it "gachi muchi" rather than bara.
Anyway, the art in it is VERY good. The poses are well thought-out and the anatomy seemed to be done well, too.
As for the story, it had loads of potential but it didn't go as in-depth as it could have. I was also turned off by the way...
I really like Hidaka Shoko's works, but this one just didn't meet my expectations. The story was kinda bland and I found Ashihara to be irritating. This lessened as the manga progressed but, still, Ashihara is the character I like the least out of all Hidaka's characters.
I applaud this mangaka of compiling such a unique volume. There's a bit of every kind of yaoi physique here. Although, the art was so-so and the stories kinda bland. These were very quick and under-developed oneshots.
I wasn't expecting much from this one but I surprisingly enjoyed myself. I didn't like the art particularly much, it wasn't bad but everybody had the same childishly-thin body shape. From the character design, I found it hard to believe that some of these characters were 30 years old. All the characters looked the same age...
Main story (ch1-3): This one was melancholic and slightly dark. I...
For the first story only:
This was the first BL manga I ever read. It left quite the impression on me, as I still it vividly even after all these years.
This is a dark oneshot, even darker than Yuki Kaoru's regular fare. But bittersweet all the same...
I liked the second story more than the first one. I really liked how chapter 4 was told specifically.
I wish the first story was more like how I perceived the cover to be.
Lovey art and story line that is at once silly & a bit sad. Kumi and Sakuma's relationship evolves quite nicely but the way it does is atypical of yaoi. The stories could have been fleshed out a tad bit more but the mangaka still developed the characters fairly well. They each had a distinctive feel and I grew to like all of them in some way or another.
I also loved the non-chronological format of...
I absolutely detested Okane ga Nai, but surprisingly this spin off was not so bad.
There was no rape or wimpy/cry-baby characters here.
But the reader has to keep in mind that Someya is not transgendered; he cross-dresses as way of expressing himself.
I didn't really like the other stories so this rating is just for chapters 6 and 7.
Chapter 6 was so sick and twisted. I loved it! I didn't expect something so darkly psychological in such an anthology.
Chapter 7 was a cute and sweet high school romance. Just two regular guys, nothing special but done pretty well nonetheless.
This was a lot better in the beginning but then it out stretched out a bit too much. Some of thr drama in the middle was kinda pointless. I still enjoyed this, but it should have been at least 2 volumes shorter.
Odu-kun's story seemed kinda unfinished. But the other two stories were enough. Although the last part of the second story was fuzzy about its ending.
The art at times was a bit too messy and at other times cute and unique. Overall, it had the sketchpen-freehand-style (which I like), but the anatomy wasn't consistent throughout the volume.
I like the old west theme. I don’t think I’v ever read a manga set during this time/place. Toto was super sexy. I also liked the fact that there wasn’t the typical seme/uke thing going on. The ending was kinda abrupt, but the mini comic was cute and made up for it a bit.
God damn.
"X side" (from Pink Gold 7) has one of the hottest BL sex scenes I have ever read, hands-down. Will definitely be revisiting this one.
Edit: "X side 3" is just as steamy. Ike Reibun, you are the queen!
The story about the "Mama's" son falling for his dad's employee was my favourite among this bunch. It's something different from your typical yaoi and I would definitely read that oneshot once again (if not the other 2).
Also, I would like to point out that in this oneshot, the son's lover is a crossdresser, not transgendered!
This was hurt/comfort but it applied equally to both characters. The way they ed each other had a realistic touch to to it. It was smutty as well. Although, the art was a bit messy, I immensely enjoyed the volume overall.
This short series is about self discovery and exploring human sexuality. It is sensual yet kinky. It kinda reminded me of Aku no Hana (but less crazy).
Recommended for those who like things out of the norm.
Both stories were good but I especially liked the second one, "The Queen of the Night". The lack of melodrama was refreshing. Seeing the story from all three characters point of view was very insightful as well. It truly gave a 'slice of life' feel.
Though I still wondered why Kishi's parents left him in the first place... (or did they commit suicide?)
This was a lovely series. Angsty and realistic. Some classic misunderstanding but it was handled very well. I was going to give this an 8.3 but the three oneshots in the first volume were so fantastic and well made that I had to boost the rating to 8.8
The brother's storyline didn't go to it's full potential so that was a drawback. I hope the mangaka makes a oneshot centered around him one day.
Not bad but nothing spectacular. What I did like was the slightly kinky stuff that happened during the smut. It was subtle but added that nice touch. Some people might be squicked by it though (if they caught it).
The first couple were so sweet. And I loved how the uke owned up to his desires (totally different from typical ukes). The wordless third chapter was adorable. All the emotions and thoughts were conveyed so well just with pictures.
The other two stories were good as well but the first one was my favourite.
Con: Sometimes the way the lips were drawn didn't look to good...
Especially the first story. Their first time was actually quite realistic.
The second story was a re-read for me. I didn't realize I had read it before. It was great the second time around too. I'm craving an extra hot mustard sandwich, too!
I felt the third story was a little lacking though. The six year absence and the rape (?) were glossed over so quickly. I think dwelling on them more would...
The third story was my favourite. Movingly written, I could feel both character's despair very well. And sensual lovemaking drawn right.
In the first story, I really liked the subtle detail that the uke "cleans himself" behind the scenes. It added a realistic touch.
The second story was good as well. Though it had a typical story line, it was brought about nicely and cleanly.
The main story is creepy as hell, yet pathetic Iwase's plight drew me in. He was nuts but his disillusionment was portrayed pretty well. As the story progressed, Yuzuru's desperateness became apparent as well (with a bit of Stockholm Syndrome mixed in). Yuzuru's character was so sweetly unwound by Ogawa Chise. Sometimes with just a single simple, wordless Ogawa was able to convey what Yuzuru...
The sweet pain of the relationship was expressed so well. The initial naivety and the eventual turnabout, so good! The mothers' and others reactions were fairly realistic. How Japanese, non-confronting and indirect but the disapproval was blatant. I liked the ambiguous yet hopeful ending as well. My favourite oneshot among these.
My rating is mainly for this chapter.
The main stroy was pretty cute...
First 2 Chapters: These were ok but didn't reach their full potential.
Late Night Struggle: A relaxed oneshot about a couple in a comfortable relationship. The epitome of slice-of-life! Awesome art too.
Hands: Slow and erotic. A good one.
The Two of Them, Waiting for Spring: Cute but nothing too special. I didn't like the art style in this one for some reason.
Last 2 chapters: I was not expecting...
No plot but the sex was spicy. I never read the manga that this based on but I enjoyed this anyway. The position Toriko took was something I've never seen before in any manga gay sex scene; I liked it!
The title story and it's related oneshots were the best ones in this volume. They were hilarious.
I really liked "Dreams Unfold at Night" too. The mangaka dealt with the topic very well.
The way "Minun Musiikki" was told/drawn was interesting. The pacing was unique.
"Love Dancing Beneath My Eyes" and "Loathe!" were both ok but nothing very special.
While reading "She's Missing", it felt like I was...
The first and last stories were cute and sweet. The others were kinda meh.
The art is very clean and nice. However in chapter 4, I couldn't tell between the two leads. The only thing different between most of the characters in this volume is their hair...
Also, in the first story the dude's anus was drawn where a woman's vagina should be...
This had the the typical Sadahiro ratio of smut to plot.
I enjoyed the first story the most. Although I was confused whether it had an implied tragic ending (like Izumi's grand-uncle and grand-aunt) or not.
Warning that chapter 3 contains statutory rape. It REALLY made me feel uneasy...
Chapter 4 was interesting because it was the first time I read a yaoi centered around homelessness.
I was...
It's a lot more than just differing appetites (such as the underlying reasons of WHY in the first place) but in the simplified form, that is it. The older lover couldn't keep up with younger one's unquenchable desire. It was practically forced on him with out consent, so the bittersweet ending was very satisfying.
By reading these two you get a taste of what Kunieda-sensei is capable of. Even with this being one of her earlier works, she has such great range.
Aishite Darling is hilarious, cracky and cute. Fuyu no Sanpomichi is lovely, sad, and deals with AIDS reactions pretty realistically.
This drew me in well but the ending was a bit too abrupt for my taste.
The scene when Jun was taught how to kiss was so nicely drawn out (with the soft undertones, it seemed so gentle).
This is a straight forward oneshot that does what it sets out to do quite clearly and without anything excessive.
The man's day dreams are hilarious and fun. And it stops right where it needs to, since it was just about his delusions (though I wouldn't mind knowing what happens after...)
This is polyamory in the true sense. I only figured out what it meant a few months ago and this manga patterns what I learned perfectly. All three characters end up loving each other, but maybe not in the exact same way. And the mangaka conveys this progression so well; it makes total sense that the relationships would turn out this way. Plus the art is as amazing as usual for Psyche Delico. The...
Even though this has an usual premise, the heart of this manga is in the right place.
It is the first manga I read that deals with hairiness (or lack thereof). And it dealt with it in a semi-realistic manner (in of insecurity and such).
Mixed in with a quirky sense of humour, I really enjoyed this short manga! 🙂
The art was nice and clean. The story was a bit too drawn out.
It was interesting to read the mangaka's notes on her 20 year BL career at the end of volume 7. It really shone light on why I wasn't fully satisfied with the series. According to Takaguchi, after the last chapter of Nanahikari (which was published in 2012), she will no longer be writing more BL. 🙁
I hope she will open her eyes to...
The 6th story is my favourite. I was cute, funny, and hot. I love it when domesticity is added into the mix!
The 2nd story was pretty good too. Pro-wrestling it a theme that I haven't come across much in BL, so it was interesting to read.
The 4th story was cute too but the uke was too shota-looking for my taste.
The 1st story was alright but the editor's motives were a bit too sketchy, lol.
The...
I read the last 3 stories separately many years ago but I decided to re-read them all together as volume.
It is the first time I read the title story and though I liked it but it was not as good as the other three. The sex aspect was a bit too sudden but the ending was bittersweet and tantalizing. The cover art on it is amazing all the same!
The second story was great as a re-read. THIS is how you...
The main couple are cute and fun. Their stories are more light hearted than the other two and the humour is right up my alley. I liked how Takanshi's misconceptions cleared up slowly over time. The POV changes were great too since they helped to develop both characters pretty well.
The story when the boss was young is so sad and bittersweet. I almost teared up. It was my favourite chapter of the...
The main story is cracky and pretty funny. I loved his day dreams! However the art was a little lacking. Especially the way the mangaka drew chins. But maybe the drawing was exaggerated on purpose?
I also thought that the construction worker falling for the MC was a bit of a stretch. He was too standoffish for me to buy that.
The other story started off typically but the sex was hot, if wavering...
I liked the army story (ch 1, 2 and extra) and the confused anatomy (ch 3 and 4) the best out of the volume. During the first chapter, I thought the mangaka might take the story in the direction of Hiroo Onoda's real-life story in the Philippines but with a BL twist. Sadly, the mangaka did not do this. But I would love to read something like that!
As for the 'confused anatomy' story, the beginning...
As lifeincircuit said, this is the closest to classic manga horror I've read in BL (other than Notpia , that is).
The art was lovely and intricate (I especially loved the detail of Souta's one finger...). The dark atmosphere was conveyed very well too. However, the story wasn't fleshed out enough. The ending was amazingly creepy though (that last !)
I loved Takamine! He was too adorable. Okumura was a bit stand-offish near the end but it all ended up ok (I actually didn't mind the convenient HEA, this whole volume was meant to be fluff after all). It's like the first impression of each of them is actually the other's real personality!
All in all, I really enjoyed this volume-long story. It had me smiling hard throughout!
I'll be looking...
Hajime is such a loveable dork! While Mahiru is kinda a tsundere (but not really...)
There is a nice mix of family drama (not too much though) thrown into the business side of things in the story. This added more depth to this otherwise typical office romance.
And the last chapter when meeting Mahiru's dad is hilarious! Lightened the mood in that aspect.
I thought the 1st and 3rd stories were okay but the 2nd and 4th were much better fleshed out.
And the plot for the 1st and 3rd were a bit too typical (one of which had rapey-vibes). As well, the character designs from one story to the next were way too similar!!
A cute one volume long story. I really prefer this format over a bunch of separate oneshots. I liked how the mangaka varied the theme of "progression" in each chapter for the two MCs.
Communication is key for any relationship to last! And this oneshot shows this as well. It revolves around two MCs who have a pretty big misunderstanding of each other's feelings simply due to the fact they don't talk to eachother freely.
An epitome of the Miyamoto Kano oneshot (in both style and basic plot, which were done very well btw).
A sweet and sour mix of stories about two flatmates. Pure slice-of-life. The manga-ka dove right into a random day of the lives and continued in the same manner. I kinda pieced together a backstory for my own sake with the barest of hints scattered here and there.
Though I didn't always what the MCs did sometimes, their actions made this a truly realistic volume.
The art is of the sketchy...
A cracktastically funny volume! The creative smut was appreciated as well. However, the consent issues in the second chapter were pretty off-putting and was close to abandoning the manga. But I quickly skimmed it hoping other chapters were better.
Although this volume wasn't as good as its prequel, it was still alright. A bit boring in the middle, but the part about Tokunaga's past was interesting if brief. [spoiler]There was also a surprising non-con scene that didn't seem to have much of an effect on Tokunaga (which is strange because the so-called result didn't fit in with the tone of the series.[spoiler] However, the sweet last chapter...
Although this volume is a spin off from Doushitemo Furetakunai, it has higher quality writing is much more enjoyable. The original story was a bit too typical but this was a breath of fresh air when I first read it.
Yoneda showed love to be painful and complex, as it is in real life. Not the shmoozy and angsty stuff in many other BL with a similar plot line. Even the humour in the manga is not...
First off, I'm glad there was no non-consensual or dubiously consensual sex in this manga! In the other works I've read by this mangaka, there was at least some air of that.
Second, I actually like both stories overall. A bit melodramatic but okay nonetheless. Art was a bit dodgy at some points and pretty at others.
However, I wish the first story took a slightly different angle and focused on a...
Tons of dubcon, decent art and smutty as per Sakira's standard. I liked the story about the Anal Masturbater the best. It was silly and cracky but a bit sweet too.
Though it has dubcon, it is self aware and subverts many of the situations. It's best if you read this from a parody perspective.
I liked the main story quite a bit. It's told from the perspective of the "seme" so that is something rarely seen. The art is atypical yet clean and nice. It was cute.
And the bits about the cats were hilarious! 🙂
I didn't really like the story about the janitor, though. It felt too rushed.
The main story is a lovely coming out of one partner while showing bad turn out for the other. Though it is hopeful.
Realistic and sweet!
Cute art and at times pretty. This had an interesting take on the student-teacher relationship trope, which I usually do not like. I could really feel the desire the student had to taunt yet yearned at the same time.
The other story was nice too. The bubbly and strong delivery man with the sexy older author was a nice combo.
As a warning, this series contains non-consensual sex. However, it is treated in that manner, so there is no rape=love here.
This story was dark, yet beautiful at the same time. The translators did an amazing job. I loved their extensive notes on the poetry and cultural norms. It really helped me understand the nuances better.
As for the content it self, I was impressed. The character development...
The main story was lovely and beautiful but the shining gem was "en el parquet". This story was about an elderly
couple, with one partner suffering from what seemed to be Alzheimer's. Very touching and heart warming.
I loved the main story! It's funny and very sex positive. The dynamic between the two MCs is very unique. I would like to have seen a whole volume around these two.
The second and third stories were okay but didn't draw me in as much as the main story.
The first and third stories were great. The smut was done well and was satisfying. The plot was minimal but sufficient. This isn't the kind of manga you read for its storyline anyway. But it does what it's meant to do very well.
The second story was a cracky comedy rather than something smutty. So it felt a bit jarring reading it in this volume. But it was not bad on its own.
The art style was amazing throughout this volume. The main story was very addictive and I still want to know more.
Most of the other stories were not full blown BL, but had that tinge.
I also especially liked In the Park, which touched on the theme of homelessness.
This is a pretty well thought out manga. The main drama has to do with commitment issues. The MC have some steamy scenes and the jokes in this manga are hilarious as well. I also like the extra with the side character getting his happily ever after too.
Tbh, I liked this manga better than the prequel.
I loved this so much. However, during the first chapter, I was a bit wary that this manga might turn out like the shoujo one that they mention in the story itself. But to my relief, it went in the opposite direction. You can tell that the mangaka did a lot of research into hearing impairment when writing this.
And the art is very cute and the atmosphere is pretty calming.
I also liked the...
The volume was pure smut (with the exception if one of the one shots). The sex scenes were not very kinky but still done with interesting positions and perspectives. The art is alright is a bit messy and at times, wonky anatomy (the eyes were weird at points).
There was not much plot or character development but that was not the point of this manga anyway. However the personality gap moe was...
This is so lovely with nice and clean art!
Maybe a bit too much sugary cuteness, as the characters seemed a little OOC. But I liked this nonetheless.
The biggest plus point would be the lovely way affirmative consent was incorporated into this! <3
I loved the cracky, parody bits of this manga. Yaoi-chin jokes were much appreciated 🙂
This was pretty refreshing for a BL manga, I think.
The art was very interesting as well. Pretty at certain times, and thankfully the mangaka doesn't suffer from same-face.
Looking forward to more stuff my this mangaka in the future.
the stories each had their weird and wtf moments but they were overalll pretty funny and cracky.
My favourite was probably the first one though, it was cute too.
Tbh, i didnt really like this pairing. I felt that sou-chan didn't deserve haru. Sou-chan didnt seem compatible with him; or maybe it was that sou-chan was not fleshed out enough as a character.
The oneshot couple was cute though!
The art is amazing and the MCs emotions were conveyed so well. I especially like how the two timelines interweaved seamlessly to tell the story.
The main downside was that the consequences/effects of having had an abusive boyfriend were not fully dealt with. Sure, that chapter of the MC's life came to a proper close but what of the repercussions on his self esteem, mental health?
Maybe the related...
There are two stories in this volume. And both couples felt so real, as is Nishida Higashi's specialty.
The first story was hilarious. I loved the delusional MC! Yapoo was a nice touch too 🙂
While I was reading the second part of the second story, I truly felt heart pangs. The unraveling of the MC was beautiful.
The first story had a very easy going feeling and had me smiling throughout. However, it was clearly one of the mangaka's earlier stories, as the art style was lacking compared to her other stories.
The planetarium story was really good as well. The mangaka portrayed the pain of the MC really well. Yet it was cute in the end.
The librarian story made me a bit uncomfortable but it was very intense...
This oneshot is obviously a metaphor, but for what exactly? I can only speculate, and a few things that come to mind are: the pressures involved with closeted homosexuality, living with crippling mental illness, an unhealthy relationship, and suicidal tendencies. There are definitely more and it is up to the reader to decide on what they gleaned from this ("author is dead" etc etc).
But overall...
Sweeter and happier than the typical Harada work, but still tinged with a deep and twisted darkness.
It started off as a one shot but then grew into so much more. The layers of emotions in each of the three main characters slowly pealed back to reveal their true feelings to the reader (if not to each other).
I loved seeing everyone's perspective. Suda's POV in the last side story really packed a...
A nice mix of oneshots, some that I wish were longer.
The last one especially packed a punch. The story could have easily been fleshed out into a whole volume.
The "useless girls in BL" sections were cute too (but I really did like Umeko and didn't think she was useless).
And as always, the art was great and the sex scenes were hot.
This was well written and flowed nicely. It dealt with real issues that longterm gay couples face in various parts of the worl where marriage isnt an option for them.
Plus the sex scene was hot too. 🙂
The tanko version really fleshes out how the MC questions his sexuality a lot better than the magazine run.
The extra is sexy and super cute too!
The stories weren't very unique but were cute nonetheless. I especially liked the 2nd story. All in all, a nice way to spend time without thinking too hard. A lot of these gave me a slight smile at the end too.
This volume is cute as hell; though the story line is simple and common, it is told in a nice way. The art is lovely too!
I would love a volume about their classmate's BL story too.
I did not really care for the first story but the other two stories were lovely. They both had a unique twist. The art was cute and nicely drawn through out the volume. I will definetly read more from this mangaka.
Art was pretty but the topic of suicide was taken kinda lightly. Though the flashback did help explain the other character's motive a bit.
Plus he totally did not look his age...
This is a twisted, dark and convoluted story. However, what happens in chapter 4 does not mesh with this at all. I think the author was rushed to end this quickly or something...
ETA: But, damn, that extra chapter was smokin! I hope there will be more to Mikhail and Carlos' story.
Midnight Dancer's Strategy had a predictable story line, but the smut was great. It was a fun read.
The title story was very hot as well, but I liked the unique polyamory story line too. It was interesting to read about all three sides of this relationship (especially the side that reared it head in the last chapter).
I loved the sex-positive Kitada!
I'm looking forward to future manga by this...
I agree with the other reviewer, the lack of back story to this oneshot really hurts it. Left me with a confused wtf, especially in regards to how the other character first discovered/exploited this secret.
Some oneshots are really well done; others, not so much. This could have been so much better if the last few pages unravelled over a slightly longer period of time.
The art was still nice though.
I enjoyed this volume, though the flow could have been more seamless. I do think that the sensitive issues in this were better handled than the other manga I read by this mangaka. I wish the past relationship between Meguru and his late mother was expanded on a bit more.
Considering what mainstream Japanese society thinks of Okama, Keiichi's mom's reaction doesn't seem so far fetched. The...
The art is very pretty and the tone is light-hearted and cheery. This would be fine but the tone does not match the subject matter at all. I wish the mangaka divulged deeper into the impact of the dad's domestic violence. I think it was brushed aside too quickly.
This definitely left me with an unsatisfied feeling.
Although, the first part of the story felt a bit clunky sometimes, this novel is really a stand out. The different layers of the story were well thought out (like The Fragile Swindler). The characterization of the MC was endearing (especially seeing how Kei's natural curiousity changes slightly as he matures).
The last three side stories are what really touched my heart. I was crying big time...
I found most of this mangaka's other works to be kinda mediocre, but this one is actually pretty good.
It's a fully fleshed out story with well characterized MCs. The pacing is on point and the art is pleasing to the eye. I also really loved the characters expressive faces.
The biggest downside is how frivolously a sexual assault was treated in this. The mangaka could have shown the emotional...
This is a oneshot but it succinctly covers a few sci-fi themes. The "host" in the title has more than one meaning in this story. I had to read this twice before I caught all the twists and turns.
Nishida Higashi does it again! One of my all time favourite mangaka, so thanks for the anons for scanlating this. I didn't think it would happen and I'm really appreciative of your hard work 😀
The main story is just so adorable and sweet. I was smiling non-stop throughout the first two chapters.
The next two stories were a bit similar in theme to eachother but "Personal Feelings" was tinged...
I agree with the other poster that this is too long. Three chapters would have been more than enough, instead of two whole volumes. Aside from the couple coming out to their parents, there is nothing remotely interesting about this manga.
Yone-senpai intrigued me a little though. If there is a story about him, I might read it.
The art is pretty and clean but that doesn't make up for the uninspired...
I recently read the "extra" and that led to me bumping up my previous rating by an additional point. The reason I put "extra" in quotes is because I feel like it's not really an extra. In my opinion, it is an essential part of the story. Without it, the core philosophy behind this manga is lost.
This last chapter is what truly made the melodrama until this point make sense. It left a bittersweet...
Even though I can't read Japanese, the intent behind this manga is so obvious I can't miss it. This is a manga-fied RPF of the actors behind Sherlock and The Hobbit. Despite the language barrier, this had me laughing out loud. The art was very expressive and so pretty. "Maeda" looks utterly adorable!
I hope to see this translated someday.
Edit: This has since been translated. Can't say I missed...
I appreciated the first story for being omegaverse yet focusing on a non-romantic brotherly relationship. I also like that ending was openended and didn't force Hirono as a replacement.
The second story was okay but was a little all over the place and not as tightly written.
The first story was sad but written really well.
The second story felt like a prelude to something that never came.
The third story was super cute and sweet.
The fourth story had all the pieces to make a good oneshot, but it did not satisfy me for some reason...
Overall though, this was a pretty good collection of stories.
All three of these stories felt rushed, the second one felt less so because it had two chapters. The storylines were rushed but so was the falling in love process.
The last story felt incomplete as well.
The first volume is hilarious but tinged with an underlying mysterious darkness.
The second volume is equal parts funny and sad. I really needed that epilogue tbh; it helped bandage my gaping wounds.
All the characters were fleshed out and I loved them all to bits. Aniya Yuiji never disappoints!
The first story was okay, but the second story could have been better. In the second story, one of the MCs is way too innocent and idealized. And the other MC was too shitty to be redeemed so easily.
When I compare this to the Azami series (a better BL focusing on the redemption of an ab), this manga falls flat.
This is one manga that I would have preferred as a oneshot. In fact, if it was a standalone chapter I might have even given this a 6.5 or 7.
However, this is just too damn dull. It really goes nowhere. A change to the ending could have turned this around but the author decided not to be more daring.
This felt like a real romance. While I was reading this, I got the same feeling as when I watched Lala Land.
Even though there is some violence in the background, the MCs' love was so pure and smoothly transitioned forward. Nishida juxtaposed these themes nicely.
I especially loved the "Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole" motif that was present throughout the manga.
<3
This is a light and enjoyable read. The art is fantastic and the pacing is on point.
The amount of drama is just right too.
There is one point where it looks like the plot might get too angsty but there is a funny turn around.
I see that there is a sequel to this volume and I hope it gets picked up too!
ETA: That extra definitely got me hot under the collar! 😀
I was not expecting this at all. This story had cutesy art but a dark atmosphere. It was interesting to see complex themes like depression and the MCs reasoning for crossdressing addressed, but I felt the writing just skimmed the surface. The mangaka could have fleshed it out more.
One thing I really liked was the positive portrayal of the female characters in this. Especially Tanabe, she was so...
The first two volumes with the first couple were full of cliches, but it was worth to read them to get to the such better second 2 volumes. This butler couple was mature and more well developed than the first.
The last full colour picture in this series made my heart feel so full of joy!
The art was nice and clean but the plot left a bad taste in my mouth. This is filled with gratuitous rape and it was portrayed as love most of the time. The story was way too intense way too fast.
Most of the flaws can be explained by the author, not the artist. I'd recommend to skip this one if you are a Sadahiro Mika fan, as this is even more over the top than what is the norm for her.
“I like to keep things clean.”
For some reason, this line was so sexy to me...
Though this is a short series, the characters were given relatively a good amount of backstory. And the art was pretty as well.
I agree that this felt rushed. However, I think it’s because the last two chapters are labelled as extra chapters, but I think they are actually integral to the story (albeit how rushed they were).
I loved the sexy character designs of both MCs. The mangaka stated that they were a 7:3 reversible couple, but I was disappointed to see only one tiny of switching... 🙁
The main plot line is kinda interesting but was not executed that well (2nd chapter showed it better than the first).
I also really enjoyed the parallel lines metaphor used in a later oneshot regarding euclidean geometry vs non euclidean geometry. It was a cool way to put it.
This was a typical BL story but because it was a whole volume long, it did not feel rushed. The pace was just right.
The art is very unique. I loved the way the eyes were drawn, so expressive but different for each character. I didn’t like how the mouths were drawn when they were wide open though.
It was refreshing to read about characters who are so frank about their sexuality in BL. The first story’s MCs were so shameless, I loved it.
I really liked the last story as well. The contrast between the closested and openly gay guy was great.
The oneshot in the middle about the art teacher/student was a bit typical though.
It’s interesting to see the “hardworking Japanese” archetype in less seen careers in BL. I loved that the actual recipes for the featured food were given at the end of each chapter.
The main story is very gentle and sweet. I’m kinda tried of the whole “taking in a stranger off the street” trope in BL but this ended up nice.
I liked that in the second story, the female friend and shy MC don’t take any shit from the other MC.
Though the art was clean, it was a bit uninspired.
I really like the character design of the everyone in this volume. This mangaka definitely doesn’t suffer from same-face!
My favourite story was the shoe salesman oneshot, but the others were decent.
Although this is an S & M manga, it was done in way that is atypical for BL. An explicitly dominating S uke with a mutually consenting M submissive seme? Hell yes! I also liked that it talked a bit about who is actually dominating who, despite what actions are actually done.
At first I was a bit skeptical about how this relationship would build (based on the first manga), but I was surprsingly pleased. Both characters have complex yet realistic backgrounds. I also really liked the reveal of the tutor; though she was a minor character, her POV on the story was treated with deserving respect. On the whole, I’ve noticed that the depiction of women in BL manga are...
It’s a simple story but the little details make this so dear to my heart. Kayama’s questionable taste in fashion, Tokita’s confidence, etc. Their relationship buildup was slow but so satisfying. I also really liked how Tokita’s eyes were drawn in this.
Nishida Higashi knocks it out of the park again!
