I saw the movie while my family was visiting for Christmas!we saw it in 3-D and it was E P I C ! ! ! ! !the 3D actually was good for it, most 3-d is kinda lame, like "oops I accidentally dropped this random pack of skittles over here"but Avatar it just enhanced it, made the HD feel inferior lol 5k6tt
plus that last battle was I N T E N S E ! ! ! !

I don't know, it was meh for me.
I mean, it was basically "Dances With Wolves" and "The Last Samurai", but set on another planet. It wasn't good and it wasn't bad, just average.

Just because someone's head was chopped off doesn't mean they're dead. That's just silly.

@Sefel, yeah that Colonel is one lean mean fighting machine. 😀
I actually rooted for the guy, since he was such a badass. x]
I mean, quick thinking, man!! o.o

I was playing it for dad and then I said "Why don't I watch it too?".
In the end I didn't. Couldn't last even 2 minutes in front of it. And "2 minutes" isn't a metaphor.

Seemed to me like a sci-fi pocahantas or something. It was OKAY. Certainly not the best movie ever made like some of my friends were saying and not horrible.

I just came back from the cinema, and now I'm already looking for the film on the net because I just can't wait to see it again, even though is past midnight. I love it: story, graphics, character development everything.
Some people said that it was blah, meh, average. Well it reminds me a lot of Pocahontas, but that is one of my favorites stories, and is retold in an amazing way. I'm also guessing that since it was made on computer more things would fly out the screen (in the 3D version), well it doesn't happen a lot.
So if you want to see a beautiful story and take the time to process it to your brain this is the movie for you, if you want bricks coming out of the screen try 2012 (haven't seen it though, I think the subject is pointless or rather nonexistent).
So out of 10 I'm giving this movie 11+.

@Dr. Love, YES to the Colonel's smarts! That's actually one of the surprising things I really liked about this movie.. Usually the muscled villain in Hollywood movies is some dumb mutt, but the Colonel was sharp and switched-on and seriously capable of bringing down the house (planet) lol. I also liked that he didn't go into some kind of long-winded monologue like some sci-fi villains who're ASKING to be destroyed while they give these long speeches just to expel their hot air (no pun intended). The Colonel just fought hardcore, right off the bat, no unnecessary talking or wasting time. And he was so awesomely adaptable. When you can't have the bomb, grab an armored suit. When you can't have the armored suit, grab the gun. When you can't have the gun, grab a freaking knife. And if all else fails, KILL WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. Lol that determination was freaky-good.
o_o This has turned into a weird paean to the most unexpected character... 🤣
EDIT: What did ppl think of Sigourney Weaver? Was I the only one disappointed that she didn't kick some serious a$$ like in the Alien movies? I mean her acting was great of course but imagine if the role of the Colonel was being played by her... @_@ Ok lol I've prolly freaked everyone out... Maybe no one's ready for tough-as-nails female army villains. sob
OR ARE YOU? 😀

Avatar has already reached $1 billion mark. Now that makes Cameron the only director that made TWO movies that gross more than $1 billion worldwide. How far will this man's legacy go?

Not only that, but reached it so much faster than anything else that he still has weeks to go left on theatrical runs for more.
I thought it was pretty good. The story wasn't earth-shattering, but I didn't expect it to be. I'd heard the "Dances with Wolves meets Ferngully" thoughts, and I agree with them - that's exactly what the story was.
The visuals though - those were definitely worth going to see in 3-D. =)
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

Yup, Id would have seen it for the 3D effects alone cause it's one of its kind. The story was worth it though, like everyone has said, even if it wasnt original.
Speaking of which, apparently a sequel is in the works, I am so going to see it when it comes out!

I wonder if it'll take another 4-5 years in the making...

it has a really deep meaning about humans and nature,
about the stupidity of human being and their unstopable need of more and more.

I'm a girl and I absolutely LOVED the movie. I can't wait for the movie to come out on DVD so I can buy it and I don't buy very many DVDs. I thought the movie had a good message and even if someone's not a huge fan of the plot, I would definitely go see it for the visuals. It is amazing. It took a lot of time and it shows.
"For a long time I wasn't listening to music, to the rock and roll stuff on the radio, because it would cause me to get sweaty--it would bring back memories I didn't want to know about, or I would get that feeling that I'm not alive 'cause I'm not making it. And if it was good, I hated it 'cause I wasn't doing it. And if it was bad, I was furious 'cause I could've done it better..."

Wait, what? So it isn't connected to that nickelodeon or whatever show?
The first time I heard that there was an Avatar movie, I thought it was that too. 🤣
I haven't seen it and I don't really desire to, but I eventually will just to see all these praise for the visuals.
